About us Southern Shipmanagement is the oldest ship management company in Latin America. We have been operating in this business without interruption since 1981. We are part of a group made up of the Compania Sud Americana de Vapores, Chile, and Wallem Shipmanagement, Hong Kong. The first is one of the oldest shipping companies and today the largest shipping company in Latin America, and the second well known in the maritime industry as a pioneer and leader in providing ship management services. Our principals have given us the benefit of the expertise derived from their joint experience over two centuries, together with the technical skill of their highly qualified staff, to consolidate the team of professionals who form the backbone of our service. Southern Shipmanagement is legally constituted in Panama and has its business office in the port of Valparaiso, Chile. Up to now we have managed a total of 68 cargo vessels under the flags of the Bahamas, Chile, Marshall Islands, Liberia and Panama, trading in five continents. At the moment Southern Shipmanagement operates a fleet of 15 vessels, including pure car carriers, bulk carriers, container carriers, multi-purpose vessels and chemical tankers. Our experience also extends to hydrocarbon/petrol and reefer vessels. In 1995, Southern Shipmanagement was again a pioneer, being the first ship management company on the continent to obtain certification of compliance with the International Safety Management Code. Later, during 1997, in the constant search to provide our clients with a better quality of service, the management system of the Company was audited again and achieved the International Quality Our team The efficiency of our management is mainly due to the careful development of a team of experienced and skilled staff who work together, know and share the principles on which our business is based and identify with and are encouraged by providing an excellent service. Our management team is mainly made up of professional mariners with a wide experience of service on board different types of ships. However, we also include experts from other areas, because we firmly believe that there is strength in diversity. All our Superintendents have gained competence and experience on board vessels under our management, which has enabled them to acquire complete knowledge of company procedures, in preparation for this important role. Our officers and crew are made up of a selected group who have worked with Southern Shipmanagement for many years. Their skills are systematically reinforced by continuous training courses. Embarkation of crewmembers is programmed so that time is spent on the same vessel, or a similar one, to enable familiarity and special identification, one of the strengths which distinguishes us from other managers. Service Our central aim is to supervise and protect the value of the investment entrusted to us by every client. We are concerned to meet your requirements, to agree on the best operational costs - compatible with safe technical management and international class and flag requirements - to closely oversee daily management and to feed back to the owners reliable, relevant and timely information. Every client is unique and we give special attention to each one. Service is our speciality. Southern Shipmanagement provides a complete ship management service on behalf of the Owners, including all duties and responsibilities related to crewing, maintenance, repairs, insurance, Class and Flag inspections, technical supply, financial management and all administrative support. In a business where the efficiency of personnel and equipment is of prime importance, we are aware that there are clients who may only require some of these services at certain moments or from time to time. In this case Southern Shipmanagement offers the opportunity to contract, selectively, Naval Engineering services (new construction supervision, alterations, careening and major repairs and vessel inspections), Maritime Operations (dangerous loads, shiping transport and risk control), stores and spare parts supply, recruitment and crewing provision, buying and selling of vessels and advice on implementing quality and safe management systems.
