Parlevliet & Van der Plas was founded by Dirk Parlevliet and brothers Dirk and Jan van der Plas in 1949. The main activities were buying herring at the Dutch fish auction and selling on the Dutch market. The small family company soon grew too big to service only the Dutch market, and other markets outside of Holland were penetrated. During these years of expansion the fishing company was founded. The first ship of the fishing company, the Jan Maria , was taken into service in 1959. Over the years Parlevliet & Van der Plas has started trading many others species of Pelagic fish. As the whole fishing industry expanded during the eighties, so did Parleviet & Van der Plas. In 1967 Parlevliet & Van der Plas took their first freezer-trawler into service, called Annie Hillina . The first commercial property and office was established in the Rederijstraat in Katwijk. After a few years the company moved to the Van der Veghtstraat, also in Katwijk, a location from which the company was forced to move due to a fire that left the building burnt to the ground. After several locations, the company founded in March 2002 her headoffice in the municipality Valkenburg (Zuid Holland), very near to Katwijk. The milestones from the history of the company are: -In 1986 the foundation of the 100% daughter subsidiary, Doggerbank Seefischerei GmbH, established in Bremerhaven, Germany -In 1998 acquisition of the 100% daugther subsidiary, Mecklenburger Hochseefischerei GmbH (MHF), established in Rostock, Germany -In 2000 start newbuilding fish factory at Rugen, Germany Parlevliet & Van der Plas has, within more than fifty years after the company was founded, grown to an international enterprise, with an emphasis on high quality seafood, durability and business at the source. At this moment the company fleet consists of eleven freezer-trawlers, and the company owns and operates multiple cold stores, trading offices and a fleet of trucks. The company can now provide service at every point in the process from catch to delivery. The fishing company consists of 11 trawlers. These cover the fishing grounds of the North Sea, Gulf of Biscay, around U.K. and Ireland, Iceland and African waters, looking for pelagic and deep sea fish. 50 years experience in the seafood business 700 emloyees and a turnover at about 200 million EUR.
