Ever since KJ-Hydraulik was founded in 1978 the key element in our services has been flexibility. Ongoing development of services has lifted KJ-Hydraulik to be one of the major service and repair companies in the Faroes. A total of 80 people are employed at KJ-Hydraulik and our subsidiary Hydro-Tech. Hydro-Tech s main business area is the fish farming industry where the company has established itself as a brand. The level of innovation and expertise at Hydro-Tech has lead to a growing number of orders from international fish farming companies. KJ-HYDRAULIK started of in 1978 when Mr. K ri Johannesen decided to run his own business servicing the fishing fleet in the field of hydraulics. The first years he was working on his own but soon the request from the customers was to increase his staff due the high level of service and skills. The first increscent was with tree engineers in 1983. At the same time Mr. Johannesen became the appointed service agent for Rapp Hydema, the internationally known Norwegian winch manufacturers. The business consisted of service and installation of complete winch systems and supplies of components. Hereafter he began to offer the customers marine cranes with great success. The brand at the time until 1991 was Swedish made Tico cranes. The firm also managed to make long-term contracts with ship-owners on total service and repairs of all steelworks, engines as well as hydraulics. The relationship with Rapp Hydema and their high quality products for the fishing fleet was the core of the firm s business though the eighties when numerous new buildings got Rapp Hydema winches installed. In the beginning of the nineties, when the economy went down for the trawlers and alternative fishing methods were tried, the company was the only one to convert trawler and long-line vessels with high quality and efficient Gill-net fishing equipment. The activity from 1983 increased steadily, and in 1987 the present workshop on 600m2 was built. At the time 8-10 people were employed by Mr. Johannesen. At the same time the firm was made to a limited, P/f K ri Johannesen Machinery Workshop. In the down period from 1991 to 1994, the company struggled hard to survive and did so. From 1992 to 2000 the company has increased it s staff from 12 to 54 employees, in addition to 20-25 people at, Hydro-Tech, a subsidiary company of KJ-HYDRAULIK. The company structure after 1991 has changed allot.
