GDYNIA General information Gdynia is one of the youngest and most dynamically developing cities in Poland. Port and town were created on the place of small fishing village in 1921-1926. Since the beginning Gdynia had an important role in the Polish maritime economy. The influence of maritime industry and trade on the city's economy is still significant. The port of Gdynia The port of Gdynia. The Port of Gdynia is situated on the northwest coast of the Bay of Gdansk. The port is well protected from the sea by long breakwaters. The Port of Gdynia can accommodate vessels with an LOA up to 250 m and draft up to 13.10 m. All kinds of cargo are handled here but volumes of general cargo, cars, containers, steel, grain and chemicals are the most significant. Shipyards (shipbuilding and repairs) are located within port area. GDANSK General information Gdansk is the biggest, most significant industrial, cultural and scientific center in Northern Poland. The historical records about port and city are dated since the 10th century. The city, located on the Bay of Gdansk, still maintains the charm and the style similar to other Hansa towns. The shipbuilding production and commercial port services have always been the town's main economic activities. The industry located nearby influences the traffic in the port (i.e. crude oil, sulphur and chemicals). The port of Gdansk The Port of Gdansk is divided into two parts: the inner port and the outer port. The inner port, which is called Nowy Port, is situated on both banks of Martwa Wisla, the western part of Wisla estuary into the Bay of Gdansk. This old part of the Gdansk port can accommodate vessels with a length not exceeding 225 m and a maximum draft of 10.20 m. The main activity in this part of the port is based on storage and handling general cargoes, chemicals, fertilisers, sulphur, ore, timber and coal. The ship-yards' activity is placed here as well. The outer port is called Port Polnocny and is situated 2 miles east south east of the entrance to the Port of Gdansk. Vessels up to 300 m LOA and with maximum draft of 15,0 m can be accepted there. Bulk cargoes such as coal, crude oil, liquid fuels and LPG are handled in Port Polnocny.
