BREMEN (Bremerhaven, Nordenham, Brake, Emden, Wilhelmshaven) The Bremen ports comprise both the Bremen and Bremerhaven harbours. These, in their turn, are the two poles of a group of ports, to which belong those of Brake and Nordenham - which are preponderantly engaged with the handling of bulk commodities on the lower Weser. Main ports are Bremen and Bremerhaven, equipped for handling of all kinds of cargo. The ports Bremerhaven is known as one of the most effective containerports in the world. Cars, fruits (fresh and frozen), fish (fresh and frozen), general cargo are other well known kinds of cargo. Bremen is port for all kinds of project shipments, forest products, and general cargo. Private owned companies, mainly located in Industriehafen, are doing project shipments and all kinds of bulk and breakbulk. Large bulk transhipment installations are situated at the Lower Weser ports Nordenham and Brake where vessels with drafts up to 13 meters usually discharge. Scope of services for Nordenham: Handling and intermediate storage of bulk cargo as ore, oil, coke and fertilizers. General cargo as logs, sawn timber and steel products. Brake is specialized in breakbulk as forestproducts, iron and steel, project shipments and grain in bulk. Wilhelmshaven has the most important oil terminal in Germany, situated at the Jadebusen, 25 miles from Weser light vessel. Usual Berths for tankers: 'Nord West Olleitung GmbH' (NWO), "Wilhelmshavener Raffinerie Gesellschaft" (WRG, former BETA and MOBILOIL). Berth for bulkcargoes (coal): "Niedersachsenbrucke".
