TERNEUZEN (Sluiskil) The port The port of Terneuzen is situated at the mouth of the canal leading from the river Scheldt to Gent. The port consists of two separate harbour areas i.e. the Braakman harbour (Dow Benelux jetties) and an inner harbour behind the locks. Maximum dimensions for passing Westlock Terneuzen 265 m (l.o.a.) 34m x 12.25m. Note: draft in fresh water. Braakman harbour Here one can find Dow Benelux N.V., producers of a wide variety of plastics and chemicals. The barge and coasterdock have three platforms providing six berths for loading and discharging purposes, the Ocean dock provides two berths and is suitable for accommodating vessels from barge-size up to sea-going vessels with a maximum of 100,000 tons dead-weight. Canal harbours These are the four harbours on the East bank of the canal situated about one mile South of Terneuzen locks. Also a bulk harbour with 600,000 tons open stockyard specialised in coal. The other harbours are used for handling all general cargo, wood, paper, and phosphates. Sluiskil Sluiskil, situated about six miles South of Terneuzen is the industrial sub-port of Terneuzen. The following industries are located here: Hydro Agri Sluiskil Fertilizer manufacturer. The factory owns a private berth of 700 mtrs length with a max. draft of 10.67m (35ft). Products: Calcium Ammonium Nitrate, Magnesium Ammonium Nitrate, Urea, Anhydrous Ammonia, Nitric Acid and Liquid Carbon Dioxide.
