DUNKIRK (Calais, Boulogne sur Mer, all ports on wide gauge canal Dunkirk/Lille/Valencienne) Just one hour sailing from the worlds busiest seaway Dunkirk is a port with complete facilities able to handle all types of ships. The port covers a seafront and consists of two major areas of over 17 km (10 miles). The port The port of Dunkirk is divided into two areas: Western port The Western Port is a tidal port where 300.000 DWT ships can be received up to 20.5 m (67.3ft) draft. It handles supertankers, large bulk-carriers (180.000 T), container ships and Cross-Channel ferries which all value the fast access of this port. There is neither a lock nor a river approach. Eastern Port The Eastern Port can accommodate ships of approx. 120/130.000 T with a draft of 14.20 m (46.6ft). Situated behind 3 locks. It handles the ore-carriers, bulkers supplying the Sollac steel plant, grains and others, as well as liner vessels, cargoes etc...
