Tor Shipping manages administrative details for owners of ships registered in the Faroese International Register of Shipping (FAS). Currently, Tor Shipping represents and manages tankers, dredgers, and offshore vessels for ship owners that have taken advantage of the many benefits of FAS. FAS has proven to be an excellent alternative to other ship registers in the region. It offers less bureaucracy, a simple registration process, and many favourable terms and conditions. For instance, ships registered under the Faroese flag are entitled to a 28% refund on wages paid to crew and ship owners enjoy a low 20% corporate tax rate. The register is open to ships of 100 gross tonnes or more engaged in worldwide trade. (Fishing vessels and pleasure craft may not be registered.) The Faroese Bare-boat Register is an alternative to FAS. This register offers the same advantages and has the same terms and conditions as FAS. The registration of foreign vessels under the Faroese flag is not the only potential for growth for Tor Shipping. The recent sensational discovery of oil in the Faroes augurs well for increased industry activity. Such activity will lead to a greater number of ships operating in the region.
