On the spot where the Ancient Bataviers, the first inhabitants of the Netherlands were known to have landed on Dutch soil, and where throught the centuries, wooden ships have been built as well, a more modern shipyard was established in 1917. This yard was completely destroyed during World War Two, but although capital element of the shipyard , the offices, cranes, working premises and engines were lost, the spiritual heritage, the traditional knowledge and skill handed down from on generation to another have survived. After the war, when De Hoop yard was rebuilt with modern equipment this heritage was realized with impoved skills producing beautiful, modern ships with highly sophisticated specifications. The design engineering and production departments (steel piping, carpentry, engineering, steel pre-manufacturing, piping and machinery, carpentry and outfitting) are manned with a highly skilled and certified staff in these various disciplines. They are equipped for development and construction of ships and equipment for generations to come. In fact, all types of vessel could be built in De Hoop Yard. Scheepswerf De Hoop Lobith
