The company is specialised in dry cargo chartering, and in particular hold a strong position in the shipments of non-ferrous concentrates and metals, alumina, coal, steels and project cargoes. Our main customers are producers and trading companies active in the mining and metal industry. Due to the diversified activities, and global trades of our clients, we are active practically all over the world. One of our important niche-activities is related to agreements with a number of clients for transhipment of cargoes arriving in ocean going vessels at Continental and Black Sea ports, and the subsequent arrangement of onward carriage by coasters and/or barges to river, or sea ports in Northern Europe, Baltic, Black Sea and the Mediterranean. Our service usually includes full cargo handling i.e. transhipment and/or discharge at final destination, storage and onward carriage. The company has built up close working relationships with a number of direct charterers, owners and/or operators in various parts of the world, and we work actively as traditional shipbrokers fixing on voyage terms, or Time-Charter in sizes ranging from coasters upto handy-max tonnage. We focus our efforts on clients that appreciate a close and long-term relation and act in accordance with industry standards and the code of Shipping and Chartering practice. Our policy is to provide an extended customer service, which not only offers the obvious required confidentiality, professional and cost competitive chartering assistance, but also, depending on the individual customers needs and requirements, a service on all Shipping related matters such as stevedoring contracts and supervision, freight estimates and market reporting/analysis, day to day operational matters on vessels/cargoes, laytime calculations and other relevant pre- and post-fixture administration, Marine insurance including arranging appropriate insurance cover, loss prevention and claims assistance, as well as general legal advice.Generally, we work in sizes ranging from coastal- upto handymax, i.e. cargoes/vessels between 1000 mtons and 50,000 mtons. The main commodities we deal with are concentrates, alumina, non-ferrous metals, coal and steel products. The policy of the company is to develop and maintain close,strong working relationships with a relatively limited amount of companies, rather than working "anything, anywhere with anyone". We recognise the importance of specialisation in today?s competitive shipping environment, and naturally take pride in the fact that Varangia Shipping is considered as one of the leading broking companies within our field. Some of our main trading areas are : SOUTH- AND CENTRAL AMERICA where we fix regularly with a variety of owners and parcel operators. The majority of the cargoes are exported from the west coast of South America - mainly Peru and Chile - and the largest volumes are going to ports in China, South Korea, Japan and Thailand - we also charter regularly to destinations in Europe (Baltic-Continent-Mediterranean-Black Sea), South Africa, India and the Middle East. PERSIAN GULF where we are active in both import and export of commodities like alumina, concentrates and metals. FAR-EAST is mainly the receiving end of our business, with most of the cargoes coming from South America and the Persian Gulf. In addition, we fix regularly local/coastal business in China, South Korean and Japan. BALTIC-CONTINENT-MEDITERRANEAN-BLACK SEA where we, amongst other things, regularly arrange transhipment from larger seagoing vessels into barges and/or smaller vessels and coasters, for on-carriage to a variety of destinations.Through our extensive network we can assist with part or full freight arrangement practically all over the world. As agents or by outsourcing agreement we can negotiate and operate all stages of the transport on behalf of our principals. We can also act as a multimodal transport operator from point of shipment upto final destination. Examples of our activities are: - Board to board transhipment operations of bulk minerals at the Port of Antwerp, Rotterdam and other continental ports including barge delivery on the inland rivers and to the Baltic. - Board to board transhipment in the Black Sea ports for barge delivery to final destination on Danube and Volga-Don river system ( including Caspian Sea). - Bulk and general cargo deliveries to/from former Soviet Union (FSU) including chartering of vessel and barges, stevedore handling contracts, storage and rail deliveries to /from inland destinations. - Bulk discharge operations in the Persian Gulf including supply of quality grabs for mineral handling. - Project shipments on full liner terms. As insurance agents we are able to negotiate and place favourable cargo cover for our clients with top rated underwriters in the Scandinavian insurance market. Cover is normally provided as an annual contract/ open cover with tailor-made solutions for each clients specific need and type of risk. We can also assist with single shipment cover in accordance with the standard Insitute Cargo Clauses ( ICC-A, B or C) or equivalent. Our staff have a long experience in cargo supervision and claims adjustment why we can offer our clients full support with loss prevention schemes, claims handling and possible recourse actions. All our agreements and offers, as well as our activities are subject to the "General conditions of the Nordic association of freight forwarders" (NSAB 2000). Offers and agreements for the chartering of ships and fixtures as well as sale or purchases of ships, are made or concluded by us in our capacity as agents only, even if the name of our principal is disclosed after the conclusion of the agreement concerned.
