The De Poli Group is the top private enterprise in Venice. Advanced technology, a highly skilled workforce, more than 100 years experience in the field and well-defined bearings in the market ensure that the companies in the group command a leading position in the national shipping panorama, not to mention international prestige. The group includes the De Poli Shipyard, specialized in building and repairs to average-sized merchant ships and Ar. Co. In. srl, which is responsible for five chemical tankers double-hull, from 10,000 to 14,000 deadweight ton of a high technological profile. Situated on the island of Pellestrina, the yard spreads for about 30,000 square metres, 8,000 of which are covered and house an office complex, three sheds occupied by mechanical workshops, structural steel works, carpentry and electricians workshops, a warehouse containing 12,000 items catalogued on the computer , a canteen and visitors quarters. The installations comprise quay cranes, lifting trucks, lorries, vans, harbour tugs, shunters etc. as well as four gantry cranes (with lifting capacity of 70, 70, 10 and 120 tons), a floating dry-dock (for the repair of ships of 3,000 tons in weight and up to 120 metres in length) and 3 automatic cranes (with lifting capacity of 50 and 90 tons). The De Poli Shipyard is also equipped with a mobile shelter for jobs which cannot be carried out under the permanent roof because of their volume. The yard is a member of Ancanap (whose chairman is Davino De Poli), a category association of private shipyards (Assonave-Confindustria), and of Confindustria and Confitarma. The turnover excedes 100 thousand million lire and the yard provides work for 700, counting employees and those employed in spin-offs. In these past five years the De Poli Shipyard SpA has branched out with another investment: the purchase of a mobile shelter to guarantee the execution of jobs of a certain volume - such jobs could not otherwise be carried out under the permanent roof. The workers and the areas of the ship the job is being carried out on are, therefore, adequately protected from the rain and the sun. Investment has also borne witness to the erection of a new shed of about 1,800 square metres, which has been added to the two previously mentioned and, hence, extends the area for under-cover work. The refurbished machinery depot completes quality improvement, and the result is a radical change in a working environment now removed from inclement weather and any discomfort caused by atmospheric conditions. A significant part of the renovations was reserved for a canteen and changing rooms, putting the facilities provided by the company for the yard workers among the best at international level. The effort to improve technology has developed above all in the introduction of automated systems for executive planning and production. Indeed, the progressive disappearance of mythical figures in the traditional shipyard industry (for example plotters, on board pipe surveyors and others) along with the increase of the technical profile of new ships have brought about a transformation in the technical offices. The latter are obliged to produce co-ordinating plans and isometric sketches of pipes and all the fitting out material as quickly and as accurately as possible As in the manufacturing industry in general, the use of the computer has become indispensable both for design (c.a.d.) and for control of production machinery (c.a.m.) The group includes the De Poli Shipyard, specialized in building and repairs to average-sized merchant ships and Ar.
