So far the year 2003 has been quite exiting. Our project to contract foreign shipping companies to purchase and operate Dutch built, second hand low airdraught vessels was given a solid boost. Shipcon participated in the Royal Dutch Shipowners Association's task force group lining up and representing private owners who intend to sell their vessel to remote markets in order to be able to re-invest in more up-to-date ships. Shipcon concluded building contracts for six 'state of the art' 2250-DWT vessels with a Rumanian shipyard providing the vessels required by selling private owners. We again went to Brazil to maintain contacts and to eliminate problems and questions related to our second hand export project. Shipcon met with Governor Germano Rigotto from Rio Grande do Sul, who visited Holland to express his interest in co-operating with Dutch authorities and companies to develop shipping in 'his' Brazilian state. We concluded negotiations with a Brazilian company involved in maritime transport to establish a joint venture. In due time the joint venture will built and operate short sea vessels adapted to local conditions and requirements with the assistance of Dutch shipyards. Today we finished preparations to travel to India again to take part in the INMEX 2003 Exhibition again. For details of this project just click this INMEX 2003 LINK. In November 2002 we took part in a Dutch trade mission to India headed by the Dutch minister of Development Cooperation, Mrs. Agnes van Ardenne, and the Dutch minister of Foreign Trade, Mr. Joop Wijn. Contacts between Indian maritime companies and Dutch maritime know-how were established. A Letter of Intend was signed with an Indian shipyard for the construction and delivery to Shipcon BV of a 2200 tons low airdraught vessel. Thanks to participation in bi-lateral governmental discussions and seminars Shipcon was given good opportunity to present and promote the features of short sea shipping and the opportunities that co-operation with Dutch maritime companies might offer to the Indian government and to the Indian shipping industry. In March 2002 Shipcon again joined a Dutch Trade Mission with Mr. Ybema to Brazil. Existing contacts were tightened and new contacts were made. Consequently a visit to business relations in Uruguay was paid and the shipping potential of Paraguay was explored. Before July 1st, 2002, worldwide all sea going vessels need to have adopted a certified management system (ISM). Shipcon assisted private Dutch owners with implementing this system by matching the existing procedures and policies with the ISM format. Projects were concluded by official certification within 5 months. In 2001 Shipcon took part in the INMEX 2001 exhibition in Mumbay, India. A lot of useful contacts were established. The interest from Indian shipping companies has been overwhelming and opportunities are being explored ever since in a very promising manner. In 2000 Shipcon participated in the Dutch Trade Mission to Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, led by our Minister of foreign trade Mr. Gerrit Ybema. As in Vietnam in 1997 acquaintance was made with the local short sea industry and moreover with it's interests. Later that year Shipcon was appointed managing director of the Dutch subsidiary of a large foreign containership company. 1999: A dull year. Day to day business, consultancy and interim management consumed all time available. A large shore-based Dutch maintenance and service company was looking for other markets. Shipcon BV conducted a marketing research and established commercial contacts between this company and Dutch shipyards. A mutually profitable relationship was established. In 1998 Shipcon initiated 3 shipbuilding projects for 3000 tons short sea vessels, financed by Dutch private investors attracted by the tax incentives provided for by the Dutch government policy. In 1997 a market research in Vietnam was conducted on behalf of Shipcon. The market for second hand Dutch short-sea vessels was explored as well as possibilities for bi-lateral co-operation. The country consequently was visited and contacts were made with government officials (a.o. Mr. Nguyen Viet Tien, Vice Minister of transport), the shipbuilding- and the entire shipping industry, the Dutch diplomatic services and financial authorities. In 2000 Shipcon was invited to take part in a tender procedure for building and delivering patrol boats to Vietnam. In 1996 a foreign shipowner had ordered two 5000 tons dry cargo vessels with a Dutch shipyard. After the owner had been convinced about the advantages of flying the Dutch flag on these newbuildings a Dutch subsidiary was established and own equity was brought forward by almost 140 private investors. A number of projects is on hand now. Once established they will be published here. This page will be updated on a regular basis with the latest news. Back to Project Development >> Shipcon BV participating in the INMEX 2003 exhibition in Mumbai, India. Like in 2001 Shipcon takes part in the INMEX 2003 Exhibition in Mumbai.
