ROB HART is a name familiar to Yachting and Boating enthusiasts and Commercial Fishermen in North Queensland, providing a range of services to luxury and commercial customers via his Innisfail based business, ROB HART BOAT BUILDERS PTY LTD. The Boat Building business began in Sydney and traded for 30 years until 1991 when Rob moved his operations to the Johnstone River Innisfail, Far North Queensland, Australia. The elaborate features of the Alexander Stewart (background picture) are a fine example of Rob Hart's craftmanship. The 18.3m vessel is cold-moulded and of timber construction. Everything on the vessel was made by Rob Hart Boat Builders Pty Ltd, including all the bronze castings, lead keel and all stainless steel equipment. Rob Hart has also had considerable involvement in the building of several yachts for the world renowned Admiral s Cup. Rob Hart Boat Builders Pty Ltd has a Slipway with undercover workshop facilities. They also operate a Pattern Shop and Foundry for specialised casting of lead keels. The 500 square metre, undercover workshop is operated by a team of qualified Tradesmen and Apprentices. Rob Hart Boat Builders Pty Ltd began operating the Boat Building business in Sydney and traded there for 30 years until 1991. After a long search, Rob bought out the existing operations of FW Woodnut & Co. on the Johnstone River at Innisfail. Rob Hart Boat Builders now own their own Slipway, Foundry and Workshop and employ a team of qualified Tradesmen. The location is ideal, just a few minutes from the centre of town with unrestricted access and protected deep water access. The slipway has a capacity of 100 tonnes and leads to a 500 square metre workshop area. The property provides one of the only undercover operational Slipway facilities in the area. Rob served his apprenticeship as a Boat Builder with the Berthon Boat Co.Ltd in Lymington, Hampshire, England ... working on timber trawlers, tugs, composite construction inshore and coastal mine sweepers, storing tenders, work boats, yachts and launches to Lloyds classification. He also gained experience in blacksmithing, foundry work, white metalling, pattern making, general machining, rigging and all types of welding. Rob emigrated to Australia in 1961 and began his own operation working on trawlers, tugs and work boats in Sydney, further developing his skills with aluminium, steel, timber and fibreglass.
