Union Gap, WA, December 23, 2002 - John O'Brien has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Walker Bay Boats, manufacturer of small recreational boats. O'Brien joined the company in October 2001 as Executive Vice President and has already made a significant contribution to Walker Bay's North American brand repositioning and to the company's new strategic direction focusing on new product development. O'Brien says " I look forward to leading this progressive company, already established as the world leader in small boats, to its next level of growth." In January 2003, Walker Bay will be launching the Rigid Inflatable Dinghy (RID), a truly innovative boat that will stand apart from all other small boats. The RID combines the benefits of a rigid hull with the added stability and versatility of an inflatable tube making it the perfect tender, great sailing vessel and all round fun recreational boat. "Pre-season trade commitments have already resulted in the first quarters production being sold out," says O'Brien. O'Brien has been in the Sales and Marketing for 35 years with companies such as General Electric, Ford Motor Company and Whirlpool Corporation in varying executive sales and marketing roles. His last position was Managing Director of Whirlpool African operations based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He successfully integrated and restructured a previously bankrupt newly acquired manufacturing and distribution company into the Whirlpool global network becoming the second largest volume manufacturer on that continent.
