The terminal is situated within the harbour limits of TanjongBerhala Port. It is protected against the adverse monsoon weather by the eastand south breakwaters. The seasonal weather patterns are broadly divided into threecategories. They are: Southwest Monsoon (May to September) Winds are generallyfrom the Southwest during this period and can reach gale force during localsqualls. Northeast Monsoon (November to March) Persistent bad weatheroccurs during this monsoon and high sea and swell conditions can persist forperiods of three to four days and in extreme conditions for up to a week. Transistion Periods (April to October) Winds are lighter andvaries but may freshen in the late afternoon and early evening with sea breezeeffect. Occassionally, local gale force squalls may occur but these aregenerally of short duration. Caution: The sever squalls often occur without warning. Thebasic pattern of these squalls are vigorous thunderstorm, increasing as thestorm approaches. Maximum tidal range is approximately 3.0 metres. During flooding tide, current is south going at 0.3 to 0.5m/s. During ebb tide, current is north going at 0.1 to 0.15 m/s. During northeast monsoon, current is greatly influenced by wave and wind can reach avelocity of 0.8m/s or higher. When within VHF range, ships are to contact Tanjung Berhalaharbour control on International Marine VHF channel 16 for berthinginstruction. Ship will be designated to tune in either channel 14 or 17 forfurther ship shore communications. The port is restricted to daylight operations from 0700 hoursto 1900 hours during North East Monsoon from November to February. Operationsare back to normal 24 hours during March to October yearly. The incomingpropane and butane are then refrigerated and stored in town 25,000 m 3 (15,075 tons) butane tanks and two 30,000 m 3 (17,550 tons) propanetanks. These products are then loaded into refrigerated propane-butane tankersor pressurized LPG tankers/barges (1,000 to 2,000 dwt) at the end of a 300metre loading pier. The loading system is equipped with the following loading armsassembly: 4x12"ANSI for refrigerated cargo loading and vapour return 1X6" ANSI 300 for perssurised LPG loading 1X3" ANSI 300 for LPG vapour return and availableadaptors are i) 4X10" ANSI 150 ii) 4X8" ANSI 150 All arms are hydraulically operated with quick connect disconnect coupler as a method of connection.
