Bintulu Port is located at Latitude 3 16'N and Longitude 113 4' E and is a modern and efficient multipurpose port located in the central West Coast of Sarawak, East Malaysia. Bintulu Port is Malaysia's biggest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in addition to facilities and service provider for handling general cargo, dry and liquid bulk and containerised cargoes. The port is well equipped with cargo handling equipment and ancillary facilities to handle variety of cargo and ship's efficiently at the dedicated berths and facilities. Bintulu Port is about 19 km from Bintulu town and is an artificial harbour covering an area of 320 hectares. Its water limits extend in an arc seawards as far as 18 km. Vessels are to approach through a dredged access channel of about 5.7 km long, 240 m wide and 15 m deep. Pilotage is compulsory for all vessels above 25 m LOA entering or leaving the port limits. Port Authority pilots are available round the clock. Pilot boarding ground is at Latitude 3 18' N and Longitude 112 58.5' E. Incoming vessels are to contact Bintulu Port Control Tower on Channel 12 with VHF range. Channel 16 is for distress. There is also a SSB station operating on 463 KHz. Towage is compulsory for vessels exceeding 70 m in length. Barwil Bintulu started officially in 1994.
