Port of Santos The southern hemispheres most dense industrialization area, and a decisive element, when choosing Santos for foreign trade business. Santos shall guarantee its position as Hub port for Brazils south-eastern region and the entire South Americas southern cone. The modernization process, which started in 1993, and still goes on, qualified 150 companies and privatised cargo movement. A modern network of roads, link the port to the country and accomplishes a complete transport sub-structure along with the railways to the Tiete-Parana waterways. The port is 65 km from S o Paulo, the biggest Brazilian city, and within a 100 km radius, two international airports complete its inter-modal status. The port's capability of warehousing and distributing cargo, supports efficient and safe operations. Retroportuary terminals and inland customs stations, widen business possibilities. The most technical resources for cargo movement available, increase the ports efficiency, which is equipped with productive terminals, specialized in break -bulk, steel, solid and liquid bulk cargoes and containers. The labour force accumulates long experience and training in a round the clock port. Counting on a modern and efficient net of services, the port is able to provide vessels, all the facilities needed. The Santos Port Leasing and Partnership Program (SPLPP), attracts private undertaking to the efforts of improving the ports cargo flow. It came to year 2000, with 78,60% of the port already leased or under leasing process, and with the figures for new investors and interested companies, growing every year. Until the end of the whole process, the port shall be receiving US$ 435 million, in investments towards its modernization, US$ 240 million of which are already secured.
