The Port of Oxelosund - Logistically right! Adjoining open sea 20 min to Stockholm Skavsta Airport Direct railway connection 1 hour to Stockholm Immediate motorway access 3 million people within a radius of 150 km About the Port of Oxelosund Oxelosunds Hamn AB, the port operating company, is owned by the Municipality of Oxelosund and SSAB Oxelosund AB, each of which holds 50% of the shares. We have approximately 210 employees, with annual turnover of SEK180 million. The Port of Oxelosund is a deepwater harbour, close to sea, with a water depth of 16.5 metres, permitting a draught of 15.5 metres. The approach from the sea takes just one hour, guaranteeing both safe navigation and cost savings. The Port is essentially ice-free, and boasts excellent railway and road connections. It has been singled out as a TEN port by the EU, a resource of national interest by the Swedish National Administration of Shipping and Navigation, and one of six ports with a strategic location by the Swedish National Rail Administration. Every year, some 900 vessels call on Oxelosund, ranging in size up to 110,000 DWT. Approximately 5 million tonnes of cargo pass over the quay every year, with the highest cargo volumes accounted for by deliveries of ore (1.9 million tonnes) and coal/coke (1.1 million tonnes) to SSAB. We also load steel (1.1 million tonnes) and handle oil. History Our port has centuries of history behind it. Oxelosund was long a trading and shipping centre, but port activity got under way in earnest in 1877, when the railway from the Bergslagen region was completed. The leading exports were timber and ore from the mines of Bergslagen, while English coal dominated the imports. By 1899, 14 steam cranes with 3 tonnes of lifting capacity were in place, and ships of 10,000 tonnes DWT could be loaded in three days by 106 dock workers. Business concept The Port of Oxelosund shall take a business and client oriented approach, providing a comprehensive range of services in the port and logistics sector. Vision From its base of operations in central Sweden, the Port of Oxelosund shall become one of the most dynamic ports on the Baltic through its market position, service, quality, environmental approach and innovation. Bulk/Storage Every year more than 3 million tonnes pass through our bulk terminal. The navigable depth here is 16.5 metres, enabling the very largest vessels sailing the Baltic to call. Loading and discharging is carried out using our conveyor belt system to and from our 256,000 sq.m. of storage areas on the quayside or directly from vessel to vessel. Stevedoring and storage facilities work round the clock, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Steel-Sheet Of the approximately 125 operational personnel we employ, 50 work at SSAB s own steel port facility handling sheet-metal, both in rolls and flat sheets. 900,000 tonnes of sheet-metal are loaded annually, from SSAB Oxelosund and SSAB Tunnplat in Borlange. Oil One of Europe?s biggest underground cavern systems for storage and handling of fuel is located in Oxelosund. The energy plants store their fuel oils here, and external customers are also welcome.
