The work on rebuilding the M/S "Loran" after it sank while alongside the quay in Alesund has now been completed at Fiskerstrand Verft AS. The vessel arrived at the yard on 20 June and left on 18 November, which was exactly as planned and agreed in the contract with the ship owners, LORAN K/S, Godoy. The contract for the entire work carried out, which included various extra reconstruction jobs, was worth over NOK 50 million. With a length of 51.2m and a width of 11m, the M/S Loran is Norway s largest net and longliner, built by Solstrand AS in 1999. All in all, only the wheel house remained above the waterline after it sank, which meant that the boat required extensive tearing down, cleaning and rebuilding work carried out. Fiskerstrand Verft AS carried out the work, which in practice more resembled a complete outfitting of the hull. In addition, there was a lot of work involved in tearing down and removing all the installations, machinery, factory and other equipment. All of this rebuilding work was carried out over a period of around four months, not counting the summer holidays. The yard workers and the local sub-contractors made a tremendous effort to complete the boat on time, so then the ship owners had the chance to complete their remaining quota, approx. 170 tonnes of cod and haddock and some extra quotas.
