BMV was founded in September 2002, but builds on a more than 150 year old tradition of shipyards at the company s sites at Laksevag and Marineholmen in Bergen. The yard is located near to many of the largest oil fields in the North Sea and in close proximity to Norway s largest Naval Base. BMV sets forth to be the preferred shipyard for repairs, outfitting and newbuilding of ships up to panamax size, as well as the Royal Norwegian Navy s preferred civilian partner in newbuilding, routine overhaul and repair of its vessels and fast-speed diesel engines. Services for the oil- and land based industry is also a major target area. Todays stategy: Newbuilding - BMV is a competitive shipyard for newbuilding and outfitting of various types of vessels, such as fishing boats, supply vessels and last, but not least seismic, research and other specialised vessels of which we have long experience in building and outfitting. - Co-operation with shipyards in Eastern Europe for low cost production of hull and propulsion, enables BMV to continue its activity of shipbuilding. - Building of modules for the new Norwegian Frigates in co-operation with the Spanish Shipyard Group Izar will be one of the main activities in coming years, but gives flexibility to take on other newbuilding projects as well. Maintenance - Maintenance, including repair, lengthening and conversion of merchant and naval vessels of all types. - Maintenance, routine overhaul, repair and testing of fast-speed diesel engines. These services also include spare part deliveries and technical support. BMV is an authorised dealer and workshop for MTU, Detroit, Caterpillar and MaK diesel engines, but has also experience with MWM, Cummins, Deutz, Bergen Diesel, Wartsila, MaK and MAN diesel engines. - Maintenance, repair and production of specialised products for oil- and land based industry BMV s Industry&Oil Department has wide range of machinery and tools and can therefore carry out a wide variety of specialised tasks.
