The inlet is wide and deep. Easy navigation in combination with efficient equipment saves time and money through quick dispatch of the vessels. There is no waiting time for release of import cargo and export cargo can be delivered to the port at flexible hours. There is a rail connection to the quay and direct access to the motorways R29 and E22. Therefore the pick-up and delivery of containers, trailers and other equipment and cargo is fast and cost-effective. "In a sheltered location with a natural water depth of 14 metres, you will find the Port of Karlshamn, a unique port with excellent navigating conditions, that is free of ice all year round. It is strategically located in the centre of southeastern Sweden's industrial area and forms a hub for the thriving trade routes between Scandinavia and Eastern Europe." Baltic Outlook Seminar with inauguration of new RoRo facilities "The Motorways of the Baltic Sea" is the name of a international conference which will be held in Karlshamn October 29th. The seminar, which is arranged by Swedish Maritime Forum (Sjofartsforum) in cooperation with Port of Karlshamn, is focusing on the future trade and logistics between east and west via the Baltic Sea. During the conference the new RoRo-berth in Port of Karlshamn will be inaugurated. The Conference is addressed to responsible persons within export/import, transport/logistics active within industries, organisations, shipping, logistics and others who may be interested in the development of trade and logistics in the ermerging market east-west. The delegates will get an future outlook of the development of the eastern economies and markets, how the enlargement of the EU will influence the trade. How EU and States see the future development of transportation via the Baltic Sea and infrastructure. Last but not least, visions and practical experiences from senior management of companies working with logistics between east and west. The numer of delegates in limited. A first brief information with registration form can be downloaded here Daily departures for passengers to Lithuania The cargo volumes and number of passengers between Karlshamn and Latvia/Lithuania continue to grow. Therefore DFDS Tor Line - Lisco Baltic Line again increase the capacity. As from June 24th the freight- and passenger ferry m/v "Palanga" will join m/v "Kaunas" on the route between Karlshamn and Klaipeda. With the two ferries DFDS Tor Line can offer daily departures from Karlshamn Monday-Saturday for both cargo and passengers. Baltic lines upgrade capacity and service The cargo volume between Karlshamn and the Baltic countries is increasing. During 2002 the volume rose with 60% and since the beginning in 1995, the number of cargo units carried has grown from 0 to nearly 30.000. The demand for passenger capacity is also exceeding the demand. Therefore both the lines who are trading between Karlshamn and Latvia/Lithuania will now change to vessels with more capacity for both cargo and passengers. The "new" vessels are in principle sisters and with a length over all of nearly 200 metres they are far larger than the present vessels. The exchange will take place during the week before easter. On the route Karlshamn-Klaipeda DFDS Tor Line - Lisco Baltic Service will exchange "Palanga" with "Kaunas". She has a capacity of 1 570 lanemeters (about 108 trailers) and 235 passengers inclusive of drivers. On the route Karlshamn-Liepaja the danish-german Scandlines Amber Line exchange "Kahleberg" (temporary replaced by "Ask") with the "Petersburg", with a capacity of 1 570 lanemeters (about 108 trailers) and 150 passengers inclusive of drivers. Both vessels will make three roundtrips per week and have excellent facilities for passengers including a varity of cabins, restaurants, bars, tax-free shops etc. For more information, please contact respective agent in Karlshamn: Lisco Baltic Service: DFDS Tor Line AB - +46 (0)454-336 80 Scandlines Amber Line: BecoShip AB - +46 (0)454-190 80 Sweden-Odessa in 3 days Now there is a new intermodal connection which can open new logistic and trade opportunities for companies in Scandinavia. This old route to the black sea was used by the vikings already 1.000 years ago. SWEDEN-ODESSA IN 3 DAYS WITH THE "VIKING" VIA PORT OF KARLSHAMN During 2002 the transport ministries of Lithuania, Belarussia and Ukraine agreed on common terms for a new rail connection between, Klaipeda, Lithuania and Odessa/Iltjitjovsk in Ukraine. A rail-shuttle for lorries, trailers, containers and other intermodal cargo units. The service was launched on February 6th with one departure per week in each direction. A sleeping car for drivers and security guards is included in the train. The long distance of 1.700 kilometres is covered in only two days (guarantee = max 68 hours) which can be compared with 10-12 days with ordinary road transportation or the sea route via the Mediterranean Sea. By using the train, bad roads and time consuming border crossings are avoided. The price is said to be 50% of the cost for transportation by truck. Lorries and other rolling cargo is driven on/off the train and other cargo is lifted by forklifts or cranes. 20' / 40' standard containers, special- and reefer containers and other intermodal cargo units are accepted. According to the development team, customers in Turkey and Iran have expressed there interest in connecting their markets to the train shuttle. This could easily be done through the existing liner network in the Black Sea. So now exporting and importing companies in Sweden and other countries in Scandinavia can send cargo to/from the expanding markets in Ukraine in only 3 days by using the Port of Karlshamn, DFDS Tor Line - Lisco Baltic Service to Klaipeda and the "Viking". Soon maybe also Turkey and Iran in less than a week. For more information about price, schedule, please contact the agent: Klasko branch BLC in Klaipeda Phone: +370-46-39 91 91 E-mail: blc@klasco.lt Website: www.klasco.lt Port of Karlshamn expands the RoRo-terminal Port of Karlshamn see RoRo-traffic as an important segment with an interesting future in the Baltic Sea. The trade between Scandinavia and the new markets in East Europe is expanding. Port of Karlshamn has an excellent location where the trade lanes between Scandinavia, the Baltic countries and Poland meets. As a result we have experienced a very strong growth for cargo and passengers using RoRo- and RoPax-service via Port of Karlshamn. In order to meet the demand from present and new potential customers, we have now started Phase 2 in our expansion plan for the RoRo-terminal in Karlshamn. Phase 2 includes a second RoRo-ramp at the Schengen terminal, dregding and extended areas for vehicles. The new RoRo-berth will be a equippeded with a adjustable hydraulic ramp, 25 m wide and 15 m long. Minimum depth is 8 m. The berth will have bollards with fenders, equipped with navigation lights. The construction of the new berth is scheduled for completion in October 2003. In July 2002 a new passenger terminal was opened. Port of Karlsham has a focus on RoRO and our ambition is to grow as an important and efficient hub for cargo between east and west. We also put mutch emphasis on intermodalism and rational administration by using modern technology. Regional Cargo Transport Council for the Counties of Blekinge and Skane As a result of a request from Banverket, regarding the establishment of a regional Cargo Transport Council for the Counties of Blekinge and Skane, the organisation Ports of Sweden have appointed Mr Bjorn Nilsson (Managing Director Karlshamn Port & Stevedoring AB) and Mr Lennart Pettersson (Assistant Managing Director of Copenhagen Malmo Port AB) as representatives for the ports in the two regions. The new Council will start to operate during 2002 and partly 2003. The purpose of the Council is to study the present situation regarding the need for rail infrastructure in the region Blekinge-Skane and to investigate needs for the future. New Passenger Terminal in Karlshamn The number of passengers who are using the ferry services between Karlshamn and Liepaja/Klaipeda is increasing. Therefore a new passenger terminal was opened in July at the ferry terminal in Karlshamn. In the terminal building there are ticket offices, lounge, offices for customs and police, elevators. The new facilities now offer passengers, liner agents, customs and police comfort and a more attractive environment. The terminal is also spacious with capacity, not only for the present volume, but also cope with a further increase. In the present condition the customs area have a capacity of 300-400 persons and the lounge 200 persons. Outside there are also a "pick-nick" area and nearby a small beach which can be utilized during the summer. The terminal will also offer improved safety and service as drivers and passengers are separated. Logistic centre Project regarding establishment of a separate logistic centre adjacent to the Port of Karlshamn. To meet existing- and future needs for storage, as a result of outsourcing. The Port has intiated the idea of a storage- and transshipment centre in connection to the Port area in Karlshamn. New refuse assorting system In order to improve the environment by encouraging recycling of waste from the vessels we have located some refuse stations in the port. The stations consist of some containers for different type of waste; plastic-, wood-, or papermaterialier. "South East Link" - a missing railway connection South East Link is the project name on a much needed railway link between Blekinge coastal railway and Olofstrom. A new investigation point on that link would be remunerative with this days basis and at all pointed on an increased demand for transportation between Blekinge and Gothenburg. The investigation is initiated by the municipalities of Almhult-, Olofstrom-, Karlshamn-, and Port of Karlshamn. The area outside the Stilleryd harbour is ready for exploitation The development area north of Stilleryd harbour in Karlshamn, is now prepared for exploitation. The preparation includes draining, preparing for electricity?s, telephone circuit with more and also reconstruction of approached to the harbour. The preparations will be completed during year 2000 The port of Karlshamn is a large port with a flexible and flat organisation. Port of Karlshamn (Sweden) - Karlshamns Hamn
