The IACP is the only organisation, which furthers exchanges of information and contacts between the world of the city and that of the port. Documents To know more about IACP... - Board of Directors - Membership application - IACP Rules - 2004 Annual Subscription Rates The recent success with the professionals, notably the Anglo-Saxons, of the London International Waterfront Exhibition, in which IACP participated, bears the proof : international waterfront business is flourishing, the demand for luxury housing is steady, the profits generated are considerable. A great number of these projects are attractive for the local players confronted with the necessity to put back into value as fast as possible the abandoned spaces, strongly looked down on by the population. The development and maintenance of a drive by the port city to create added value and employment for the community, the conservation of public access to the waterfront are as many absolute priorities for the members of IACP. The waterfront of every port city has a unique store of wealth for the community. Its value stems from its many uses and its capacity to adapt to any possible foreseeable future. Not to sacrifice it to short term financial logic is also to make the choice of sustainable development. PROJECT : Valparaiso : mobilising its tourist advantages The necessity for concerted development strategies and the mutual profit obtained by both port and city is an evidence shared by the port and municipal authorities of Valparaiso. Their combined presence in the Council for the Development of the Coastal region, in the Commission for the Heritage of the City, but also the setting up of a system of environmental management or the reorganisation of the land accesses to the port are examples of this.(...) The enthusiasm shown by the professionals of the sector, in particular for the Mediterranean area and theme cruises, was however tempered by the players of the port cities who questioned the opportunity to engage sometimes considerable investments in response to the demands of the shipping lines in matters of security in the reception and handling of passenger movements. The experience of Barcelona which berthed 9 cruise vessels that day, bears witness however to the existence of a cost/benefit ratio interesting for the port city whenever the costs of these infrastructures may be integrated upstream in a logic of concerted urban port development. Study trip to Finland and Estonia The end of September was a good time to discover the often less well known port cities of Helsinki (Finland) and Tallinn (Estonia) separated from each other by a little under three hours by ferry. Led by Professor Jacques Charlier, the 17 participants of this voyage were able to benefit from in depth visits in the company of local players, to numerous urban and port projects of these two Baltic ports, both in the global competition. Both the development project for the Tallinn Waterfront (Old City Harbour) and the urban redevelopment projects of Ruoholahti and Arabianranta on the waterfront in Helsinki as well as the projects for new ports at Muuga (Tallinn) and Vuosaari (Helsinki) captured the attention of the participants of this magnificent voyage. > See the photos of this study trip and of the projects International WaterfrontExpo 2003 exhibition From the 21st to 23rd October last, in the context of "WaterfrontExpo 2003" in London, IACP met the principal world investors interested by the redevelopments of waterfronts, marinas and luxury housing on the quayside. Media Generation, in partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architecture (RIBA) organised this world "first" with which IACP was naturally associated. The IACP stand in particular enabled professional players from thirty-odd countries to discover the work of the Association : its aims, its international network, its programme of events and its new Internet site. In the crowd of numerous construction projects presented, visitors will retain, amongst others, those of the United Arab Emirates, spectacular by their size and their architectural research. > See the photographs on Docklands Pictures Swiss Re Headquarters (London) Swiss Re Headquarters (London) Isle of Dogs (London) Press Article Jawaharlal Nehru : first Indian port for containerised traffic The Indian port of Jawaharlal Nehru was put into service in 1989, initially to relieve the congestion of the port of Mumbai.
