MINERVA SAFETY, QUALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT POLICY We know for a fact that our Shipping profession hides inherent dangers for our Human and Sea Environments. In the so-called dynamic shipping environment, we consider ourselves as constantly moving forward to catch up with the increasingly complex condition of our profession. We recognize also that Pollution of the Sea by oil is the most harmful of all hazards, and therefore a very demanding statutory legal system is in place to prevent it. Given our compliance to this legal system, and recognizing that one of our prime objectives is to protect Life at Sea and the Environment, we have pledged to be bound by the following operating principal ideas: Transparency in all that we do and especially with our clients; Consistency and Quality in our services; Consolidation to a limited number of unlimited ships (unlimited in way of age and regulations). All vessels in the fleet are SBT, either Double Hulls or Double Sides with PL ballast tanks; Constant Environmental consciousness, as we are constantly aware that pollution hazards are always inherent to operating even modern tankers; Improve and develop our Human resources, as we believe that this is the most invaluable aspect for the Safety and Quality of our industry; Create a cultural attitude onboard and ashore for the preservation of the Environment, which in simple language is, never compromise on Safety and Environmental issues; Create a strong interaction between the individual departments, which has as a result the continuous across the board sharing of knowledge, that enhances team work and consolidates the Company's ability to any emergency response; and Give extreme emphasis to Technical Maintenance, as it has become a very strong consensus to everyone in the Company that technical and structural integrity of our ships is our every day objective. Protecting the Environment and Safety of Life are the most pressing and complex issues. They are in constant evolution, and therefore must be observed constantly and responsibly. Minerva Marine is a young Shipmanagement Company, which operates a fleet with an average age of 4,5 years. Minerva is genuinely a Tanker Company operating only Tanker vessels. The Company started as an off-spring of Thenamaris operating from inside its parent company for about 1,5 years until it moved in 1998 to its newly constructed own offices in Voula, Athens. At that time the management of eight vessels was transferred and a skeleton staff followed the new Company. Since early 1998 Minerva has engaged in a moderately heavy new building program which was completed in the year 2000. In the same period it has been equally active in the 2nd hand purchase market mainly of Aframax Tankers. The Company has an integrated management structure and is completely independent of outside services. Each department within the Company has precisely defined tasks and all departments liaise on a daily basis to achieve the best possible operational result. There are implemented Safety Management and Plan Maintenance Systems closely monitored internally and externally (SMS) and an active Emergency Response Team meeting twice a week (Operational and Safety Meeting). The departmental layout of the Company is rather conventional consisting of the following basic sections: Management Chartering (Commercial) Operations Freight, Demurrage & Defence Disbursements Checking Safety and Quality Technical Purchasing Spares Supply Marine Personnel Insurance Legal Information Technology Accounts (Financial) Minerva is a member of the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO), the Hellenic Marine Environmental Protection Association (HELMEPA) etc. and rigidly supports the work these organisations do in making our profession safe and healthy for all those involved both directly and indirectly.
