Dakota Creek Industries is a complete shipbuilding and repair facility specializing in construction and repair of steel and aluminum vessels up to 400 feet (121.92m). Examples of previous and current construction projects include workboats, fishing vessels, ferries, oil recovery vessels, and barges. Located at the Port of Anacortes, Dakota Creek Industries shipyard has been serving the needs of shipping and marine industrial companies since 1975. Our location often proves to be a cost-effective advantage for marine businesses concerned with down-time and expense. State of the art equipment assures efficient and on-time construction and repair, and you can expect expert craftsmanship in every new construction, re-fit and repair. Pre-Outfitting The most efficient method of construction is to build the vessel in several large blocks weighing up to 300 tons. This allows easier access and improved efficiency for the pre-installation of piping systems, machinery modules, switchboards, wireways, joiner systems, and bathroom modules, etc. The pre-outfitting process maximizes the amount of work prior to the blocks being fully assembled to form the completed vessel. Laser dimensional control and computer cut steel ensures accuracy of the blocks and alignment of the finished hull. Construction Building In early 1996, Dakota Creek constructed a purpose-built 300 long building for the construction of aluminum vessels, and modules for larger vessels. The property is just a block away from the main shipyard facility. Six aluminum vessels have been constructed in this building up to a length of 164 and modules up to 168Lt. The following attributes are included in the 100 wide by 300 long by 50-ft high Building: * A hot water boiler heats the building with coils embedded in the concrete slab. The slab acts as a heat sink. This system maintains an even working temperature throughout the year. * The system provides heat in the winter months and it actually has a slight cooling effect in warm summer weather. The building is also heavily insulated and has sprinklers for fire protection. * Two 10-ton bridge cranes span the entire width of the building. The two cranes provide a maximum amount of flexibility in lifting large and bulky components of the vessel. * An air re-circulating and filter system scrubs the smoky air generated from the welding process and creates an ideal working environment. Steel Construction Facilities The shipyard has a steel storage area where cut parts are received from suppliers, previously wheel-abraded and primed, where they are inspected and sorted. DCI utilizes the support of the extensive facilities of Far West Steel and Seaport Steel to supply quality cut steel and aluminum parts. Adjacent to the storage area is the panel line. The pre-outfit unit/block construction area is located on both sides of the Syncrolift rail transfer system. The pre-outfitted blocks are transferred or lifted onto the rail transfer system for final assembly, resulting in the pre-outfitted hull. Due to our efficient assembly site, consistent high quality is maintained. Repair and Maintenance Dakota Creek provides a complete range of ship repair and ship maintenance capability. Our self-contained modern drydock is capable of lifting vessels to 9,000-tons and the Syncrolift can lift vessels to 5,000 tons. We can drydock vessels to 350-feet in length and up to 86-feet in beam. Our broad range of capabilities include propulsion system repairs, propeller and shaft work, steel and aluminum repair, piping systems of all kinds, electrical and electronic systems, corrosion control and painting. Complete pier-side facilities are available, including the capability of mooring a 650-foot vessel with draft to 30-feet.
