The Company will therefore conduct its operations, both ashore and onboard the vessels under its management, in a manner to promote health, safety and the protection of the environment. Specifically Ceres Hellenic Shipping Enterprises will: Minimise adverse health, safety and environmental impacts resulting from activities ashore and onboard through planning and the use of integrated management system procedures. Provide for healthy, safe and environmentally protective practices in vessel operations. Provide a healthy and safe working environment with safeguards against identified risk. Provide a framework for setting, evaluating and reviewing safety and environmental aspects, objectives and targets. Be ready to respond to emergencies, both ashore and at sea with effective contingency plans. Monitor waste and the consumption of resources (material and energy) and commit to recovery and recycling, where practicable and feasible, as opposed to disposal. Educate and train its personnel to improve their health, safety and environmental awareness and skills. Work towards sustainable development and improvement in health, safety and environmental performance to reduce injuries and environmental emergencies, through continuous improvement of the management system. Promote sustainable global improvement by participating and communicating relevant health, safety and environmental issues with other interested parties. Encourage contracted service providers to demonstrate a commitment to improved health, safety and environmental awareness. Comply with all applicable health, safety and environmental laws and regulations and cooperate fully with relevant enforcement agencies. Continuously monitor and assess the Company's performance against set standards by audit and evaluation. Require all shore-based and shipboard personnel to adopt and comply with this policy. It has a commitment to comply with the requirements of ISO 9001-2000 and to work towards continual improvement of the quality management system. In achieving continual improvement consideration will be given to the following quality objectives. Reviewing the current and future client base Establishing regular management reviews and implementing findings within the quality management system. Soliciting client's comments to determine client satisfaction. Determining the effectiveness of the quality management system through internal auditing and assessment. Establishing criteria through which the standard of the quality management system can be evaluated and opportunities for improvement identified. Ensuring that resources are sufficient for satisfying the quality objectives. It is a requirement of this Policy that every employee, at sea or ashore, be responsible and participate actively in implementing and improving the quality management system to ensure that the Company's activities are conducted with high regard to the community and environment. The Company has implemented a "zero tolerance policy" in the use and/or trafficking of internationally controlled substances and alcohol abuse, for both shipboard and shore-based personnel. All shipboard and shore-based personnel are required to be in a condition to respond, at any time, to an emergency situation, while on duty. The misuse of legitimate drugs or the use, possession, distribution and/or sale of illicit or unprescribed drugs onboard or ashore, is strictly prohibited. Any use of a controlled substance which causes or contributes to unacceptable job performance or unusual job behaviour, is also prohibited. A person is considered under the influence of alcohol and his/her performance impaired, when he/she has a blood alcohol content of 40mg/100ml, or greater. The Company requires a period of abstinence from alcohol to be exercised prior to any scheduled watchkeeping duties or work periods, as per Company Drugs and Alcohol procedures. All sea-going personnel, onboard contractors and shore-based personnel shall sign a declaration of acceptance of the Company's drug and alcohol policy. All sea-going personnel employed by the Company must undergo a drugs and alcohol screening test and pass it, before signing on. Random and unannounced testing for use of banned substances and misuse of alcohol is regularly performed onboard all Company managed vessels, to monitor compliance with this policy. If it is determined that a Company employee, onboard or ashore, has or is abusing controlled substances or alcohol, his/her employment will be terminated. Specifically Ceres Hellenic Shipping Enterprises will: Maintain a global security situation awareness. Provide for security protective practices and procedures in vessel and shore operations with safeguards against identified risk. Conduct assessments of possible security threats to vessels and shore establishments. Promote sustainable global improvement by participating and communicating security intelligence with other interested parties. Comply with all applicable security laws and regulations and cooperate fully with relevant enforcement agencies Receive and evaluate security briefs at high risk ports and in high risk areas. Ensure that contingency planning is in place to provide appropriate responses to security threats.
