The Leading Spanish Company in the Sector IZAR is Spain's leading company in the field of civil and military shipbuilding, created in December 2000 following the merger of Astilleros Espa oles S.A. (AESA) and Empresa Nacional Baz n. By size and turnover it takes second place in Europe andis the world's ninth largest shipbuilding company. The company's industrial activity is organised in four business lines: Shipbuilding Propulsion and Energy Shiprepairs and Conversions Control and Weapons Systems IZAR is a dual technology company offering services to both civil and military naval markets. This duality is evident in all of the different Business Units, and enables optimal use of synergy, not just to reduce costs and delivery times, but also to develop innovative projects, thanks to the pooling of engineering and productive capabilities. The main aim of IZAR's business management model since the company's creation has been to guarantee a highly competitive position in international markets. IZAR aspires to maintaining this position, which is also the fruit of the synergy and the complementary nature of activities within the company, which enable us to move freely in very diverse markets. At the leading edge At the leading edge of world shipbuilding in terms of quality and technology , Izar makes great effort in RDTI in order to always offer the most advanced, state-of-the-art products and services. The innovative spirit that prevails within the company also enables us to forecast the future requirements of our clients, before they themselves realise what they need, with hitherto unknown projects and with very new applications. At Izar, we are proud of the close collaboration we have with our clients, satisfying their most demanding requirements and adapting to their specific needs. Shipbuilding Includes the construction of commercial and merchant, military Vessels, as well as offshore constructions. The integration of IZAR's production centres is brought about through specialisation in different types of vessel, led by a general directorate and supported by a strong Technical Office. The eight shipyards that make up this area have extensive experience and have built vessels for the whole world. They have an extremely wide range of products, going from sophisticated offshore constructions and aircraft carriers to special units such as shuttle tankers, submarines, dredgers, hospital ships and high speed launches. Propulsion & Energy IZAR's Propulsion and Energy Division brings the existing engine and turbine factories together. These are, the two-stroke diesel engine factory in Manises, the four-stroke diesel engine factory in Cartagena and the turbine factory in Ferrol. This Business Unit's vocation is continuous innovation, taking part in the development of new propulsion and power generation systems, diversifying the application of traditional products, optimising resource usage and making a commitment to protecting the environment. Propulsion and Energy maintains cooperation agreements with the leading manufacturers of engines (MAN-B&W, MTU, Caterpillar Inc., Mitsubishi), of turbines (KEM, Mitsubishi, Bedminster, ABB, Alstom, General Electric, Kawasaki), of Wind Turbine Generators (Bonus Energy) and of Deck Cranes (TTS). Repair & Conversions Izar's five shiprepair centres, strategically, located on the Iberian peninsula, constitute a unique offer in Europe, for both civil and military vessels.. The integration of all the centres will enable full advantage to be taken of commercial synergy and allow coordination of work, which may even previously have been carried out in competition. Systems & Weapons Within IZAR, the Area of Systems and Weapons is covered by the San Fernando factory, which specialises in combat systems and naval weapons, along with the factory at Cartagena, specialising in management and control. The first of these factories has many years experience in developing combat systems, and is currently collaborating with Lockheed Martin on the installation of the Aegis systems on the Spanish frigates. For its part, Cartagena specialises in the design and development of computerised vessel control systems (navigation, engines, etc.) and modern management and maritime safety systems. Betting on Innovation IZAR takes part in the shipbuilding market with a wide range of products that go from sophisticated civil, military and offshore vessels, to the manufacture of engines and turbines for marine propulsion, platform control systems and naval weapons. The Shiprepairs Division also has very lengthy experience, and is internationally renowned for shiprepairs and for the most difficult conversion work on ships and naval platforms. In recent years, IZAR has also moved into markets beyond the scope of naval applications, with products such as air generators , industrial plant control systems, power generation plants, engines for MBT's and trains, land defence weapons and forest fire detection systems. At IZAR, we are able to offer maintenance services for the engines and power generation plants that we install, as well as for the vessels we build, and, in general, for all the products we manufacture.
