Damen Group is located in Hardinxveld-Giessendam,The Netherlands. The company s history goes back about 70 years, to its founding in 1927 as the Scheepswerf Gebroeders Damen. Today the shipyard is internationally known as a builder of working vessels up to a length of 110 metres. It has accumulated vast experience in the design, construction and delivery of tugboats, pilot and patrol boats, cargo vessels and tankers, ferries and dredgers, as well as various support vessels, such as survey vessels and specially outfitted boats for governmental organisations, shipping and dredging companies. An important step towards this specialisation in working vessels was taken during the implementation of the Delta-Works. These storm surge barriers were erected following a devastating flood in 1953 in the Netherlands, creating a great demand for working vessels. The high quality and superior craftsmanship of their delivered vessels resulted in the K. Damen Group becoming one of the major suppliers to the Dutch Government (specially, the Directorate-General for National Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) within the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management) and the dredging companies involved in the project. Although the founders of the company originally confined their activities to the Dutch market, since 1960 the K. Damen Group has been internationally active. A considerable part of its turnover concerns deliveries to regions outside Europe, among with the Middle East and West Africa are especially important markets. Shipyard K.
