Fruit and vegetables are living organisms, they respire even after harvesting. Respiration is part of the natural ripening process. During respiration, they generate heat and give off gases and moisture that will speed up deterioration as well. Controlling the following factors can reduce deterioration of perishables: Temperature Maintenance Humidity Ethylene Air Circulation Packaging & Loading Pattern Mixing Products Temperature Maintenance Cooling the temperature is the most powerful and effective way to minimize deterioration. The faster the proper temperature is reached, the longer the expected life of the product. Cooling of fresh produce should begin as quickly as possible after harvest. Reefer containers should not be used to reduce the temperature of the cargo. Instead, they are designed to maintain rather than to lower the temperature of the cargo. Therefore, precooling all perishable products immediately after harvest and before shipment or storage is essential. Humidity Relative humidity directly affects the quality of almost all products. If humidity levels are too low, fruits, vegetables and related products may wilt or shrivel. If relative humidity is too high, mold may develop to deteriorate the cargo. Ethylene Another way to minimize deterioration is to remove the ethylene gas. Ethylene, a self-generating fruit- ripening regulator, is necessary for the ripening of fruits and vegetables. However, it can also cause damage to various fruits, vegetables if it is not controlled in minimal level. We can minimize and control its accumulation by adequate ventilation. Air Circulation Poor circulation can affect the commodity s temperature, relative humidity and ethylene accumulation. If the air cannot circulate properly in the cold room or container, shelf life of the product will be definitely affected Package and loading pattern It is important that the packaging must allow air to circulate freely through the commodity, around the periphery of the container and in the area of the door. The important criterion here is to have uniform distribution of air throughout the load. This requires the cargo to be uniformly stowed. Different sized packaging obviously dictates different stacking patterns. The dimensions of loose cartons will inevitably not be sized to fit the container exactly so the resulting gap must be kept in proper location. Don't load pallets or cartons up to ceiling height, which will restrict air flow along the return air passage over the top of the cargo to the evaporator fan. Marine containers are marked with a height limit. This should never be exceeded. Where dissimilar sized packaging is used, or cargoes do not fill the container fully, it is recommended that additional empty cartons or some other material is used to fill up the void space so that the airpassages remain uniform. In order to have optimal air circulation and cooling effect. It's advisable to pack commodity with carton and make holes in carboard all sides. Following commodity loading pattern illustrated for your reference ( Fig1 ~ Fig5 ) : Mixing Products Mixing fresh products in a single reefer is very important in their compatibility. If carrying temperature is too low or too high to one product could cause cargo damage. Shipper should also be aware of the respiration levels and ethylene produced by the commodities at certain temperatures and maturity levels and&their degree of tolerance or sensitivity to those ethylene. Yang Ming is glad to advise on suitable product mixes and you may refer to the Compatibility of Fresh Products table for further details. Why should they be declared as dangerous cargo during transportation?Because they are easily cause fires, explosions or damage to the environment or life when they are gathered during transportation. Dangerous cargo is easily causes casualty, property damage, and environmental pollution during transportation, loading and stowage if we are not careful due to the explosive, inflammable, toxic, corrosive, radioactive and harmful character to environment. Hence, we have to pay extra attention to the safety of dangerous goods transportation! Especially, we should keep in mind that IMDG CODE has become a mandatory regulation since Jan. 1st, 2004. Our "Schedule" service, displaying all possible routings, is easy for you to choose your suitable sailing schedule. Q: How can I locate a schedule? A: Choose "Point to Point Search" under item "Schedule", then select the targeted Area and Location from the drop-down list. Adjust the date range as needed. Default will read today's date with a 2 week range. Click "Search". The search results will be displayed on the Yang Ming web site.> For sailing schedule is for reference only. A: Click on "Detailed Routing" of your selected schedule from the previous search results done, you will see more detailed information. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Where can I get the long-term schedule from the Yang Ming web site? A: Click on "Download Schedule" under item "Schedule". Long-term schedules will be displayed on the Yang Ming web site after picking up your preferred area and line service. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How can I download the long-term schedule? A: Click on "Download Schedule" under "Schedule". Long-term schedules will be displayed after choosing your preferred area and line services. Select the long-term schedule with format "CSV"(Excel format), then move cursor on "Download CSV File " listed at the upper side of the page and right click to save it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Can I download an EDI schedule file? A: Yes, You can. We provide an XML format EDI file that you can get from Schedule -> Download Schedule and for the file layout you can click XML format to browse by left clicking from the same page or download it by right clicking. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Is it possible for me to receive schedules long-term via auto-mail? Q: Is the function available for all customers of Yang Ming? A: No. The function is only open to authorized customers who have shipper status and have Yang Ming's approval after submitting a registration form. A set of ID and Password will be assigned by Yang Ming upon approval as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How can I get an ID and Password? A: On the left web page, click on "register" under member login-in, choose "Booking" function and send your related information from the Yang Ming web site. After receiving your registration, we will inform you of the result within 3 working days. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Can I reuse a previous booking to create a new one online? A: Previous bookings created through the Yang Ming web site can be reused to create a new booking online. However, bookings that were created over the phone or by fax can't be viewed or reused on the web site. Following the below steps to reuse a previous booking: 1:) Log into "Booking" system with an ID and Password assigned by Yang Ming. 2:) From the main page choose "New Booking". 3:) Fill in the Booking data. 4:) Enter your favorite name in the column "Template Name". 5:) Next time you can choose the said "Temple Name" from the main page, and create a .... new booking. Here is another way for you: 1:) A previous "E-Booking Transaction ID" can be inputted on the main page. 2:) Click on "New Booking" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Can I amend a booking online? A: Yes, but the amendment can only be made after receiving the confirmation from Yang Ming. Q: Can I cancel my booking online? A: Yes, but the cancellation can only be made after receiving the confirmation from Yang Ming. Q: How soon can I receive the booking confirmation from Yang Ming? A: It is 4 working hours. If no response from Yang Ming within 4 working hours, you may contact your local sales representative. B/L Process B/L Instruction Q: Is the function available for all customers of YML? A: The function is only open to authorized customers who have shipper status and have Yang Ming's approval after submitting a registration form. A set of ID and Password will be assigned by Yang Ming upon approval as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How can I get an ID and Password? A: On the left web page, click on "register" under member login-in, choose "B/L Instruction" function and send your related information from the Yang Ming web site. After receiving your registration, we will inform you of the result within 3 working days. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: If my shipment is quite regular, I still need to re-key in data for making new B/L instruction every time? A: When making new B/L instruction, you can save it as "template". Next time you can use the "template" , only need to do some modification and click "submit" to make new one. Besides, for different trade lane, you can save different "template" for re-use. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How can I amend the previous B/L instruction? A: After log in, click "Update/ View B/L Instruction" in the main menu, choose one previous B/L instruction, amend the data, then click "submit" to update this B/L instruction. B/L Print This service can enable customers to print an original B/L, seaway bill or B/L copy on our Yang Ming web site and from the printer in their office. It is a value-added service and customers can receive the B/L faster without shipping costs. Q: Is the function available for all customers of YML? A: No. The function is only open to authorized customers who have shipper status and have Yang Ming's approval after submitting a registration form. A set of ID and Password will be assigned by Yang Ming upon approval as well. It is only applicable to USA and Hong Kong outbound cargo for the time being. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How can I get an ID and Password? A: On the left web page, click on "register" under member login-in, choose "B/L print" function and send your related information from Yang Ming web site. After receiving your registration, we will inform you of the result within 7 working days. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Can I amend the B/L content on the Yang Ming website? A: No, an amendment cannot be made through the web site at present. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What should I do when the amendment has to be made? A: If the amendment is found before printing, you can write down the content of amendment on "COMMENT" text field in the Preview Mode or you can contact our local agent directly to revise the data. After receiving an auto-email, an updated B/L is available on the Yang Ming website. However, once B/L is printed, if any change requested, you should surrender this B/L to our local Documentation Department for the amendment. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How do I know that I am able to print the B/L? A: Once our agents upload documentation data to the Yang Ming system, a notification will be sent to all parties listed in "Security" via E-mail. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: If I need to print out several B/L at the same time, I have to print each B/L one by one? A: No, There's one friendly way for Yang Ming's customer. Select all the B/L that you want to print, after check & confirm each B/L data, you can print out these B/L by clicking "Print" button. B/L History This service can enable customers to view the content of their historic B/L with Yang Ming on Yang Ming web site. It is a value-added service for customers to trace the old B/L whenever there is necessity to do so. Q: Is the function available for all customers of YML? A: No. The function is only open to the authorized customers of Yang Ming who have shipper status and have a set of ID and Password assigned by YML. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How can I get an ID and Password? A: On the left web page, click on "register" under member login-in, choose "B/L history" function and send your related information from the Yang Ming web site. After receiving your registration, we will inform you of the result within 3 working days. Track & Trace UserGuide Need an up-to-date status on your shipment? Want it right away without constantly checking with a web site? Why not just let us at Yang Ming notify you immediately and automatically by email? 'Stay in the know' by simply leaving your email address and targeted container number or B/L number on our Yang Ming web site. It's just that simple. Once anything has occurred, you will receive a prompt and accurate status report from Yang Ming via email automatically. Now that's quality service, that's Yang Ming. Q: What information can I track a shipment by? A: Container number, Booking number, Bill of lading number or P.O number can be used when you track a shipment. The Bill of Lading number Yang Ming issued is composed of 1 letter and 9 digits, so it must be entered with all 10 and no spaces. Example: A123456789. The Booking number must be entered with no spaces also. The Container number ,likewise, must be entered totally with no spaces or punctuation. Container numbers consist of 4 letters and 7 numbers. Example: YMLU1234567. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What should I do when it shows "Sorry, there is no data for this container~~" on the Yang Ming web site? A: The data of your shipment has apparently not been obtained for the Yang Ming web site with the Container number, Booking number, Bill of lading number or P.O number. You may check it with the Bill of Lading issuer for the actual carrier or contact us via Web-CS. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Where is the ETA available? A: When a Bill of Lading number is used as a reference, the said information is shown on the first page after clicking on "Track". If the criterion is a booking number or a container number, the ETA of discharging port as well as the discharging port name will be shown in the column named "To Facility" after selecting the targeted container#. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Why can't I find my Bill of lading number after inputting container # on the Yang Ming website? A: It is because the documentation data hasn't been transmitted to Yang Ming Head Quarter system yet. However, the updated status still can be found after clicking the targeted container# at the top of the page. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Could I track multi-Bill of lading or containers at one time? A: Yes. Three functions under "Track and Trace" can meet your request. 1:) "Cargo Tracking": Input you container # s, and it will show the current status of .... them. The detailed description will be displayed after you pick the subjective. 2:) "Email Tracking": Send a mail to us via track@yml.com.tw. An updated cargo status .... will be provided immediately. 3:) "Subscribe Tracking Report": Leave us your E-mail address so that you can get a .... timely status report from Yang Ming via auto E-mail until this shipment is picked up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Is it possible for me to receive a tracking report regularly instead of tracking it on the Yang Ming web site time and again? A: In order to save your time, Yang Ming provides two useful functions under "Track and Trace". 1:) "Subscribe Tracking Report": Leave us your E-mail address so that you can get a .... timely status report from Yang Ming via auto E-mail until this shipment is picked up. 2:) "Shipment Control": Log-in the service with the ID and Password assigned, and set .... the desired "Event Notification Management". Later, the wanted status and decided .... trade lanes of your agreement with Yang Ming will be sent once events occur. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How can I get an ID and Password for the service named "Shipment control" ? A: Please refer to the below instruction. 1:) On the left web page, click on "register" under member login-in, choose"Shipment Control" function and send your related information from Yang Ming web site. After receiving your registration, we will inform you of the result within 3 working days. 2:) This function is currently applicable for USA trade contract holder, including import and export cargo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What should I do when I don't want to receive any auto-tracking report from YML? A: If the subject of your auto-mail is "Yang Ming - Web ", you can follow these steps: 1:) Choose "Subscribe Tracking Report" under "Track & Trace". 2:) After leaving your e-mail address, click on the button "Submit". 3:) Then select "Unsubscribe". However, when the subject is "YML - Web status report", you can act as follows: 1:) Login the service "Shipment Control" with an authorized ID and Password. 2:) Select "Event Notification Management". 3:) Choose the "Template Name". 4:) Remove your e-mail address from "Selected Parties" or "Delete" to cancel the "Event .... Notification" of the trade lane. Nevertheless, step (3) and (4) have to be done repeatedly for each trade lane that you have set. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What should I do when I don't want to receive auto-mail for the targeted trade lane? A: You may follow the below steps to delete it: 1:) Log-in the service "Shipment Control" with an authorized ID and Password. 2:) Select "Event Notification Management". 3:) Choose the targeted "Template Name" 4:) Remove your e-mail address from "Selected Parties" or "Delete" to cancel the "Event .... A: Actually, the Company ID and User ID cannot be amended; nevertheless, you are able to change your password by clicking on "Change password" after you log-in the service "Shipment Control". A: Actually, all vessels of Yang Ming and partners are available on the Yang Ming web site. A: Click on the vessel name, and choose the date duration under service named "Search by Port". Then press "Inquire" and all the related information will be available. Tariff UserGuide Q: Is this function available for all of Yang Ming's customers? A: Yes, the function is open to the public. However, a set of ID and Password is required to access everything.
