YANG MING LINE The Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation (Yang Ming Line) one of the world's leading shipping companies, was established in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1972 as a Taiwanese government company. Yang Ming's operating fleet currently comprises 45 vessels with a total tonnage of over two million DWT; 30 of these ships are fully owned by the Yang Ming Line itself and the fleet includes full-container ships, huge bulk carriers, ore/coal carriers and super-tankers. Yang Ming Has New Chairman The Ministry of Transportation and Communications has appointed Dr. Lu Feng-hai (Frank Lu) as board director of Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation in place of Chen Ting-hui. Yang Ming's board of directors met on June 23 and elected Dr. Lu Feng-hai (Frank Lu) as its new chairman. Lu had served as Yang Ming's president for years and is currently board chairman of Taiwan Navigation Co. Ltd. He is versed in Yang Ming's operations and also international shipping business. While the world shipping industry is recovering, the new board chairman and the president, Huang Wang-hsiu, will be sure to be able to lead Yang Ming to a more promising future in global operations. Chen Ting-hui, the outgoing board chairman has contributed greatly to Yang Ming's prosperity in the past years. In view of his prestigious position in Taiwan's shipping industry and his good connections with the shipping industries on both sides of Taiwan Straits, Yang Ming has decided to retain him as its leading advisor, who will be also in charge of promotion for the company's mainland business. (2003/06/23) Top -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- YML has taken all necessary precautionary measures against SARS outbreak In order to ensure no interruption of our customer service and operation against recent SARS outbreak, YML has taken all necessary precautionary measures and established SARS prevention and contingency plans for our employees throughout China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan, both onshore and offshore. SARS Task Force The SARS task force teams have been established in Taiwan headquarters and branch offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and China. The task force teams collect latest health information on daily basis from local health authorities and WHO and U.S. CDC. Based on the collected information, SARS prevention and contingency plans are modified and enforced accordingly in these offices. Customer Service In respond to SARS outbreak, all departments have provided the emergency contact window and can be implemented immediately when situation requires. This will ensure our service and operation not be interrupted by the SARS. In addition, the task force teams have arranged staff to work at two different office locations or work from employees' residence in order to minimize the quarantine risk. The I.T. support for above new working environment is also properly arranged. Employees and Office Environment All YML offices have been taking disinfections procedure on regular basis. All employees and visitors are requested to take temperature check before enter the offices and meeting areas. Personal hygiene education program is also carried out and encourage all employees to maintain high standard hygiene condition. Business travel to SARS infected areas is avoided and employees are requested for home quarantine for 10 calendar days if they have been in contact with SARS patient or been in a quarantined area. The Contingency Plan The I.T. arrangement has been ready in place to support our new working environments, whether it is the back-up office or employees' home. The Fleet All crewmembers on our fleets are on the alert of SARS and take very serious precautionary measures to avoid infection, this include daily temperature check and disinfections onboard. Boarding personnel are required to wear facemask and measure body temperature when vessels call at the ports of infected areas. Terminal and Shipside Operations We have adopted more strict policy on personnel at terminals and shipside areas. The visitors will not allow to enter the shore offices unless necessary. On top of above precautionary measures, YML still monitors the latest SARS development closely and adjust our action plans in order to ensure we provide the best service to our customers without interruption.
