Roda Bolaget is the largest marine service company in Sweden. The red funnels of the company's tugs have been characteristic symbols for the towage, salvage and ice-breaking activities in ports all along the Swedish coast. In fact, they are the colourful reason why the Goteborg Towage & Salvage Co. has been known for many decades as Roda Bolaget, literally translated as the 'Red' company. The company's history goes back more than 125 years. With a fleet of 18 tugs and 120 experienced employees, Roda Bolaget today provides comprehensive towage, salvage and security services at Sweden's refineries and terminals, and performs ice-breaking and coastal transports. Roda Bolaget has base stations all along the Swedish coast: in Brofjorden, Uddevalla, Goteborg, Malmo, Norrkoping and Oxelosund. The headquarters as well as the major part of Roda Bolaget's towage and salvage fleet is based in Goteborg. Goteborg is Scandinavia's no. 1 harbour, visited by more than 11,000 ships each year. Brofjorden, on the Swedish west coast, has one of Europe's most modern oil refineries. Petrol and diesel oil, heating oil, aviation fuel, gas and feedstock for the plastics industry are produced here around the clock. The refinery can take vessels up to 500,000 dwt. Roda Bolaget has tugs on permanent duty at Brofjorden. From the Roda Bolaget base in Malmo, the company provides tug assistance to vessels visiting the harbour, as well as to vessels calling at ports of Landskrona, Trelleborg and Copenhagen, Denmark.
