PROFILE Orion Shipping, a crewing agency, was founded in 1996 (license # AA 217436 of the Ukrainian Ministry of Labor). Our company is located in Izmail, one of the largest ports in Ukraine, traditional home city of thousands of seamen. RECRUITMENT PROCEDURE The most important asset for "Orion Shipping" is our people. For this reason each and every employee undergoes extensive screening and selection before being assigned on board any vessels of our principals. This process is outlined below: 1) initial interview, licenses and sea-going certificates check; 2) references check with previous employer companies, verification of previous sea - going experience; 3) detailed interview in "Orion Shipping" office in Izmail: professional knowledge tests (CES 3000 testing program) English knowledge tests in company's office; 4) undergo additional training if required. TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION Every crewmember is obliged to be pre-trained and to hold valid certificates on personal survival techniques, fire prevention and fire fighting, medical aid, emergency procedures, pollution prevention and safe working practice. These types of training take place on board the training simulator ships, which are full members of the International Association of sea survival training. In addition to that, officers are obliged to hold valid certificates required for their rank by STCW78/95 and the flag country. Each of our applicants holds a certificate confirming his attendance of all the required training courses. We also run a special pre-employment English language course for ratings. This is aimed at ratings reaching a level of English that will allow them to understand the terminology within their specialization and all the words and phrases related to emergency procedures. All sea staff recruited by our company hold valid certificates, licenses, endorsements, and all other necessary documents required by STCW78/95. We keep the validity of the crew documents under our constant control and ensure they are revalidated in due time. Orion Shipping leads a strict policy of sending the seafarers to upgrade courses established by Higher Maritime Institutions to revalidate the documents. Orion Shipping works in close cooperation with the "Izmail Maritime Training Centre" and other training centers, of which there are many in Odessa, St.Petersburg, Novorossysk, Sevastopol and other seafarers centers. CREW BRIEFING Before our crew join vessels we ensure that seafarers have all the necessary documents, such as visas, certificates, licenses, and that the crewmembers are briefed properly regarding the travel arrangements, the port agent's and the ship's details, drug/alcohol policy of the company, emergency procedures, and that they are provided with all other important information concerning their future employment. When crew arrive from the vessel we de-brief them on the following: discussion of the contract performed, confidential report details, crew member's opinion on all the aspects of his job fulfilled. About Izmail Maritime Training Centre "Izmail Maritime Training Centre" was established and performs its activities in compliance with the existing Laws of Ukraine. Its aims are to meet the requirements of individuals, institutions and companies in training and further training of the onboard shipping personnel employed with both Ukrainian and foreign sea-going and river vessels as well as supplying other relevant services mentioned under the Centre's scope of activities. The Centre was established at August 20, 1998 with the purposes to implement qualified training and additional training of the onboard shipping personnel. The tutorial programs within the Centre's Curriculum are scheduled and implemented in compliance with the national and international requirements and, in particular, they are based on the Regulations of STCW 78 International Convention, as amended in 1995, DNV Regulations concerning the MTCs and the Rules on Quality Management applicable within the institutions dealing with marine experts training of Russian Maritime Registry of Shipping, hereinafter referred to as (RS Regulations). The tutorial programs are implemented in compliance with the new national and international provisions in respect of safe vessels' operation and pollution prevention. The Centre enjoys the rapid development and, as expected, will expand and upgrade its tutorial and practical basis. The Centre is completely outfitted with modern simulators and training modules. Training courses are delivered by qualified academic personnel and instructors. Odessa State Maritime Academy, wide scope of shipping companies, crewing companies and a number of software suppliers are among the Centre's partners. Tutorial programs are delivered with final certification of the students by the well-qualified and experienced personnel in compliance with the International Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping STCW 78/95 after each course. Training, additional training, qualification upgrade and assessment of the officers and ratings with involvement of specialized simulators and brand new computerized tutorial techniques in compliance with the demands imposed by International Conventions, shipping companies and national requirements.
