Europe West Indies Lines (E.W.L.): Continental Shipping Agencies is agent of the Europe West Indies Lines (EWL). EWL is a subsidiary of Wethold International BV. The Wethold International exists of a group of subsidiaries within the Shipping and Transport Industry, and a Rotterdam, Holland based headquarter. Within the last years EWL has expanded itself with more ships, capacity and number of destinations. EWL now holds up to 6 x 1000 TEU's ships and gives course to the following destinations : Europe: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, England, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland. Caribbean: Aruba, Barbados, Bonaire, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curacao, Republic of Dominica, Guatemala, Honduras, Suriname, Trinidad and Venezuela. Other places around the world can also be reached through "cross-trade". Delivering your load at the port of destination. EWL also makes use of Full Container Load (FCL) shipments, choosing between a 20 ft and 40ft container. Or Less than Container Load (LCL) shipments. Agents of EWL Tropical Shipping History of Tropical Shipping In 1954, the Birdsall Construction Company was incorporated in the state of Florida by John H. Birdsall, Jr. In 1962, Mr. Birdsall realized the developmental growth potential of Freeport, Grand Bahamas, and expanded his construction into that market. In order to solve the transportation issues of getting construction equipment and materials to the Bahamas, he purchased a small landing craft to carry these items. Soon, other contractors doing work in Freeport urged Mr. Birdsall to carry his goods as well as his own. To satisfy this need, Mr. Birdsall formed Tropical Shipping and Construction Company, Ltd. By 1970, Birdsall Construction Company ceased its construction activities and functioned as an agent for Tropical Shipping and Construction Co., Ltd. As a result, the company's name was changed to Birdsall, Inc. In July of 1982, Birdsall, Inc. was sold by the Birdsall family to Nicor, Inc., an Illinois based holding company involved in the utility industry. Nicor, Inc. is a Standard and Poor's 500 publicly held corporation and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol GAS. Tropical Shipping has grown over the past four decades to become the largest containerized cargo carrier in the Caribbean region. Tropical operates as a liner carrier and owns 11 vessels, ranging in size from 235' to 423'.
