Founded in 1930, it is one of the oldest firms operating in the port of Salerno. Its founder, Captain Nicola De Cesare, after a career navigating all over the world, decided to set up a business activity in his home-town which drew inspiration from the sea. He founded a shipping agency and developed his business in close connection with the expansion of the port of Salerno. He was actively involved in public life between the 50s and the 80s, and gave an important contribution to the rebirth of the port after the war. He also contributed greatly to the realization of a new project which aimed to enlarge the docks, extend the quays and create all the necessary infrastructures to launch the port of Salerno at international level. Keeping in step with the growth of trade, he went on to develop the various activities of his business, creating a prestigious company able to meet its customers' requirements in many fields: shipping, international forwarding, customs clearances, stevedoring services, road transport, removals, storage and travel. Thanks to the co-operation of a valid staff, he established a business activity which is widely appreciated in Italy and abroad for the reliability and accuracy of its services. His successors have followed in his steps and have preserved his values to the present day. His sons have combined the experience the company has acquired in 70 years of activity with modern technology, and have transformed the firm into a dynamic and modern reality where efficiency, accuracy and professionalism match up with the characteristic with which it was founded: punctuality, reliability and flexibility. Among its clients are numerous world famous Italian and foreign ship owners - such as Tirrenia, Italia, Lloyd Triestino, Flotta Lauro, Dole, Toepfer, to quote just a few - who have made regular calls to the port of Salerno. "C.S.A.V.", "C.C.N.I.", "C.T.E." are but a few shipping companies which have been using the De Cesare company for the stevedoring services of their ships for many years. The De Cesare company also carries out, in its own terminal inside the port, all the additional operations related to containers, such as loading, unloading, handling and storage for the whole period necessary before forwarding by sea, land or rail. The international forwarding branch is the natural complement to the shipping agency, and offers its customers a door to door service for forwarding goods by sea, land or rail. It co-ordinates the collection, transport and delivery of goods and assures that the necessary documents have been issued. It also manages customs formalities and oversees the whole operation through a computerized system. It is able to provide information concerning the whereabouts of the goods and means of transport, in real time.
