Bulcon Update News 2005 - Navigation Maritime Bulgare Contact | Site Map | Tell Us Home Company Profile Shipping Auxilliary Activities Ship Schedule Safety & Quality Agency List Contacts Tell Us Latest News 14 December 2004 The m/v"Trapezitza"was named in an official ceremony on 14th December 2004 in the presence of the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of transport and communications, Mr. Nikolay Vasilev. The Bulgarian national flag was flown. The story of the building of this vessel is quite unusual. The keel was laid on 12th June 1998, but due to the bankruptcy of "Varna Shipyard" at the end of the same year, the construction works were brought to a standstill. The vessel was relaunched only in September 2004 and she set sail on her maiden voyage on 31st December 2004. The m/v "Trapezitza" is designed to carry bulk cargoes with her 21.450 DWT, 159 m LOA and 25 m beam. Her particular advantage is the smaller draught, which allows to enter river mouths and other shallower places. 12 December 2004 The multi-purpose vessel "Balchik" (8693DWT), under the command of Captain Alexander Danailov, crossed on 12th December 2004 at 1500 hrs the 2028',5E meridian and in this way she closed her round the world trip. The vessel sailed on 3rd September 2004 from the port of Kaliningrad. The net sailing time of the trip took 85 days and 16 hours and the distance invoved to close the circle round the world was 24.254 NM with no failures on board, while the full voyage time, including port calls, navigating through rivers, etc. is estimated at 109 days and 3 hours. 25th March 2004 On April 1, 2004, the new majority owner of Varna Shipyard - the BulYard Consortium, will enter its possession. "Initially, we will continue to undertake repair works", says Mr. Zlatko Bakalov, Executive Director of the BulYard Shipbuilding Consortium. "In this respect, of high priority for us is the completing of Trapezitsa and the still unnamed gas carrier. We are in talks with several German buyers to build 5 ships with an option for 5 more." On signing the 75% participation in the JV, the new owners announced that they will secure work for 720 people. According the business plan in the offer, USD17.7 mio have to be invested in the Shipyard during the next 3 years. 27th October 2003 A new joint-venture between Navibulgar and Bulyard for operating the Varna Shipyard activities and assets On 22nd October 2003 were approved two of four bidders for the 75% participation in the joint-venture for the operating Varna Shipyard activities and assets. These two were the Bulyard Consortium, part of which is the Odessos Shiprepair Yard of Varna, and Tsakos Bulgaria. The first company offered USD 14,333m and the second one - USD 13,250m. These offers were later improved with USD 2,333m and USD 2,350m, respectively. The name of Bulyard Consortium was officially announced as a strategic partner of Navibulgar at a special meeting on 24th October by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company - Mr. Kamen Kirov. 20th October 2003 New vessel for Navibulgar On 19th October 2003 was christened the new vessel of Navigation Maritime Bulgare. The new Balgarka (the former Dolly) , named after a famous peak in Stara Planina Mountain, is 42 000 dwt bulker and is the third largest vessel in the Navibulgar fleet. This is also the first completed vessel in the restored Varna Shipyard after five-years period. The Shipyard was acquired in August 2002 by Navibulgar and since then the finishing of the 42 000 dwt bulker was of high priority. Wishes for trade winds were addressed by the Minister of Transport and Communications of Bulgaria, the Mayor of Varna, the Director General of Navibulgar and many others. This is a very happy event for all the Navibulgar staff and is due to the professionalism, responsibility and hard work of 720 shipbuilders, as well as to the efforts of the whole management team of the Company. What comes next is completing the other bulker - Trapezitsa , which is under construction in the Yard. 9th September 2003 New Director General With effect as of 8th September 2003, capt. Christo Donev was appointed Director General of Navigation Maritime Bulgare. We wish him success in his future ventures. August 2003 Bulcon upgrades services Navibulgar through its Bulcon Division is one of the market leaders in the Black Sea - Mediterranean - Continent container trades. In August the Company aiming to improve its financial results has made several changes: - five ships were time-chartered at very profitable rates, seizing the opporunity of the escalating charter market; - the number of vessels was decreased within the services themselves. This was followed by linking the two services that operate in Northern Europe, Great Britain and the Mediterranean Regions. The above stated changes will strenghten the gained position of Bulcon thanks to the improved competition of its services. 20 th August 2002 NAVIBULGAR ACQUIRED VARNA SHIPYARD The Company intends to complete work in progress on vessels under construction at the yard. The prospects are the first two bulk carriers one of 20 000 dwt and one of 42 000dwt to be finished in March 2003. Restoring the production facilities and building the ships will cost Navibulgar at least 12 m USD. more 14 th August 2002 THE NEW MANAGEMENT OF BULCON CONTAINER LINE The new management of Bulcon Container Line intends to provide more aggressive company policy, although the traditional shipping markets, namely Black Sea, Mediterranean and West Europe will be a priority. The first step is Bulcon to keep its leading positions in the container ships trade between Black Sea, the Balkans, and West Mediterranean, West Europe and England. "Kaliakra" The sail training vessel Kaliakra is a symbol of the maritime heritage of Bulgaria and is one of the fastest and best looking tall ships in the world. She was built at the Gdansk Shipyard, Poland in 1984 and is owned by Navigation Maritime Bulgare. The ship was specially designed for the training and qualification of students from the Maritime Academy in Varna - the future officers of the Bulgarian merchant fleet. The ship has participated on many occasions in the world-famous Cutty Sark Tall Ships regatta organized by the International Sailing Training Association (ISTA). The many highly placed results and the international popularity she has gained have raised the prestige of the Bulgarian national flag. During the Columbus Race 1992, dedicated to the 500 years anniversary from discovery of America, Kaliakra has sailed twice across the Atlantic Sea and finished third among 143 ships. A great number of visitors, members of royal families, head of states, government officials and celebrities have been guests on board Kaliakra.
