Alliances In cooperation with other shipping companies we continuously expand our transportation network to meet the highest demands of our customers regarding frequency, transit times and worldwide port coverage. Milestones In 1956/58 DSR started the first liner service to Finland and Egypt, being followed by the scheduled services to India/Pakistan/Bangla Desh in 1963 and to the Arab Gulf and Far East in 1969. In the year 1964 DSR employed already 100, twelve years later 200 vessels. The company started into the new era of container shipping with its service Rostock-Hull in 1971 and phased in the first 1.164 TEU container ship in 1987. At the same year "Senator Linie" was founded in Bremen and opened up its new business of 14-daily Round-The-World-Container Services with chartered vessels. In the course of the political changes in the former German Democratic Republic, DSR started in 1990 its privatization process accompanied by consultants of "Treuhand -Anstalt". Just one year later the cooperation between DSR-Lines and "Senator Linie" in the East/West traffics began. In 1994 both companies merged to "DSR-Senator Lines" with the shareholder "Deutsche Seereederei Holding" (50%) and "Bremer Vulkan" (50%). In 1997 "Hanjin Shipping Co. Ltd" became the major shareholder of the company and in cooperation with this global player the necessary strategic reorganization could be launched successfully. The drastic reduction of cost and an improvement of the service quality has been achieved a.o. by the merger of marine operations and container logistics, setting up a joint container- and chassis pool and renegotiation of charter contracts and service agreements. These measures were supported by the conversion of the "Round-the World" concept into pendulum- and end-to-end services as well as by the employment of larger vessels. The first 4.500 TEU vessel "Pusan Senator " was phased in that year and Senator could include the Hanjin intermodal network into its services. The New Information System (NIS) was implemented in 1999 . It connects all Senator offices and agencies worldwide and provides on-line and real-time data screening each stage of the whole business process from the booking request and confirmation, to cargo movements, ship tracing, vessel scheduling and B/L drafting. Since 1999 own sales- and customer service organizations take over agencies activities in strategic important markets, i.e. in the USA, Canada, Europe and Japan. In July 2000 the company changed its name by shareholders resolution into "Senator Lines GmbH". Senator Lines Ltd - Limassol - Cyprus
