Alfa Laval in Canada The first branch office in Canada was established by the De Laval Company in 1899. In 1911 the company was incorporated under the name DeLaval. The company subsequently changed name to Alfa Laval Limited and then to Alfa Laval Inc. in 1997. Alfa Laval moved from Peterborough to Toronto with Corporate headquarters, Business Areas and Service Centre in 1985. The reason for the move was to be more accessible to the customer base. Our service centre in Edmonton was established in 1996 to better serve our customers in Western Canada. Vicarb Inc. was acquired in 1998. Alfa Laval Inc. is responsible for design, sales and service of the Alfa Laval Group's products on the Canadian market. Our customers are found in various process industries such as chemical, oil & gas, pulp and paper, waste water treatment, marine and power and food to mention a few. Spare parts are delivered from our stocks or directly from our distribution centres. Service can be provided all around the world by our service engineers or by the service engineers of other units within the Alfa Laval Group. Alfa Laval Biokinetics specializes in the design and manufacture of Bioprocess modules and systems. Alfa Laval has approximately 400 employees in Canada and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Alfa Laval Group of Sweden. The Alfa Laval Group was originally founded in Sweden in 1883. From the early invention of cream separator by Gustaf De Laval the company has grown through diversification and acquisitions into a world leader in the technologies of fluid handling, separation, heat transfer. The Alfa Laval Group now employees 10,000 people with location in over 100 countries. Significant Dates 1899 - The first branch office is established in Montreal by the De Laval Company. 1911 - The De Laval Dairy Supply Company Limited is incorporated in Canada. 1913 - Decision to relocate from Montreal to Peterborough. New manufacturing plant built. 1957 - The name of the company is changed to De Laval Company Limited. 1980 - The name of the company is changed to Alfa Laval Limited/Limitee. 1985 - To be more accessible to the customer base Alfa Laval relocated to Toronto. New head office and service center are built. 1996 - The Western Service Center is opened in Edmonton. 1997 - The legal entity is changed to Alfa Laval Inc. 1998 - Vicarb Inc. of Newmarket, Ontario is acquired. 1999 - Alfa Laval celebrates 100 years in Canada! 2003 - Kinetics Modular Systems of Concord, Ontario is acquired. The company is part of Alfa Laval Biokinetics. Alfa Laval Inc. is responsible for design, sales and service of the Alfa Laval Group's products on the Canadian market.
