Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd.(KHI) has a long history as diesel engine manufacturers, commencing production in 1919. After 4 years in 1923 KHI formed a technical agreement with M.A.N. of West Germany. Since then KHI has produced many top quality low speed 2 stroke engines and high speed/medium speed 4 stroke engines for marine application as well as for land use. In 1955, KHI successfully completed the exhaust turbocharged port scavenging 2-stroke diesel engine, the first of its kind in the world. As a result of strenuous researches and continuous improvements in extensive fields for more than twenty years since then, KHI accomplished production of Kawasaki-M.A.N. KZ type engine which has gained worldwide popularity as one of the most outstanding engines for its high efficiency and reliable performance. Further to this, its simplicity in design and construction enables maintenance to be carried out with the minimum of effort and time. Based upon the successful operating results of KZ type engine, KSZ type engine was developed. It adopts various oil hydraulic pressure overhauling tools, giving considerable improvement in handling and maintenance as well as simplification of the maintenance operation. Furthermore to cope with the demand for higher economical marine propulsion system and higher reliability with low grade fuel operation, KHI developed Kawasaki-M.A.N. KSZ-B/BL and KSZ-C/CL type engines. In 1981 following the merger between M.A.N. and B&W of Denmark, KHI commenced production of the B&W type 2 stroke engine in addition to the M.A.N. type engines. Then, following the completion of Kawasaki-MAN B&W L-GB type engines, KHI has been manufacturing ultra-long stroke Kawasaki MAN B&W L-MC type engines. Furthermore, new ultra long stroke MC version, designated S-MC type engines were introduced to meet the requirements of lower revolution. Also, new short stroke MC version, designated K-MC type engines were introduced to meet the requirements of high powered ship such as container ship. Since 1996 MC-C engines have been developed with aiming higher power, higher reliability and compact size in accordance with the market's demand, and in 1998, the first MC-C engine was completed successfully. Then, in 1991 KHI formed a technical agreement with S.E.M.T. PIELSTICK of France, and commenced production of PA6CL type 4 stroke engine. Also KHI produces and supplies other products in various engineering fields of which the Kawasaki M.A.N. NA type turbocharger and Kawasaki KE high elastic coupling are only two of the items in use on a world wide basis. As well as manufacturing engineering components, our back up service for maintenance and supply of spare parts is second to none, and KHI is constantly extending KHI's efforts to improve our products both in development and manufacturing to maintain KHI's standards of high reliability and performance in the most economic manner.
