Jose Ignacio is a SBM oil terminal installed 3,600m off Cape Jose Ignacio just northeast of Punta del Este. It is owned by ANCAP, and agents should receive advice of arrival with at least 5 days notice to enable them to make prior arrangements. ETA should be sent not less than 48 hours in advance and confirmed 24 and 12 hours before arrival. The message with full details of the ship and cargo can be sent by wireless or VHF to the Traffic Control Centre (q.v.) and to ANCAP, Montevideo. Anchorage. On arrival, the ship should anchor at Lat. 35 57'30"S Long. 54 40'00" W and the anchor should be let go not closer than ? a mile to the SBM and to the alignment indicating the submarine pipe-Iine to the terminal. : Pilot and reception commission. The ship should wait at this anchorage for the pilot, mooring master, the Health, Customs, Prefecture; Immigration Authorities, ANCAP's representative, the agent, and the mooring gang also board. Anchorage zone in case of bad weather. When the above-mentioned authorities cannot go out owing to bad weather, the ship should proceed to the anchorage about 3 miles southwest of the SBM, as shown on the chart, to await instructions. SBM oil terminal is placed at a depth of 18.30 m (60'). Tankers of up to 150,000 dwt can be discharged, and in favourable conditions a tanker of 200,000 dwt can be handled. The average rate of discharge is 5,000 cu. metres per hour. There are 4 storage tanks on shore each with a capacity of 67,000 cu. metres. The crude oil is pumped by pipe-Iine to the refinery at Montevideo. All the usual safety regulations must be strictly observed during the operation. The pilot stays on board until the ship sails.
