Supe is a lighterage port in the south part of Supe bay, which is unprotected and subject to heavy swell, especially from June to August. There is a lighthouse on Thomas Point and a fixed red light at the end of the pier. There is no pilot, and the anchorage is done about 400 m. from the head of the bay in 4 to 5 fathoms. Larger ships lie further out in 6 or 7 fathoms, but they are much exposed to swell there. The pier is reserved for lighters. It is 324 m. long with 22 alongside and there are 6 of 80 tons each and 4 motor launches for towing. Stevedores. There are 4 gangs available (refer to Pimentel for conditions and Working hours ). Cargo handling. Fish meal is loaded and wood-pulp and paper are discharged. The cost is about u$s 5 per tonne. Bunkers and water are not available. Supplies. Fresh supplies are limited. Repairs. None. Consuls. None. Communications. There is a bus service to the north and south. Telex is available.
