This is a gas terminal which is supplied by gas pipelines from the extraction plants at Possession Bay (200 Km long) and Tierra del Fuego Island. LPG and methanol are loaded at low temperatures since 1988. Pilotage: It is compulsory to employ local port pilots for berthing/unberthing. Pilotage must be carried out with slack water. Towage: It is obligatory to use 2 tugs and 2 launches for the lines. Clearance: The Port Authorities come from Punta Arenas, with the pilot, by road. Restrictions: Ships must not exceed a maximum of 235m loa or a draught of 14m for berthing. On departure the maximum draught is 42 . The tanker s maximum dwt should not exceed 96.000 tonnes. The terminal pier is 120m long from the shore with a 40m platform at the head. The tanker berths alongside this platform bows to the west, starboard anchor out and moored to a dolphin on the port bow and to another on the port quarter. A 16 pipeline loads LPG with a 10 reduction at a rate of 1.000 tonnes per hour. The tank storage capacity for propane is 200.000bls and for butane, 100.000bls; held at minus 45? and minus 7? C, respectively. A 10 pipeline loads methanol with a 4 reduction at a rate of 1.500 tonnes per hour. The tank storage capacity is 156.000 tonnes distributed in 4 tanks. There is also storage for 3.800cu. m. diesel oil and 1.600cu. m. kerosene which are discharged here by coastal tankers from Gregorio when needed. A small refinery produces gasoline for local consumption. Refrigerated gas cannot be discharged here; however, in an emergency, pressurised gas is accepted from coastal tankers. There are no facilities for deballasting. Clean ballast is discharged into the sea. Gas and methanol are exported and also carried by coasters to central Chile. Bunkers: Diesel oil can be delivered to ships willing to berth here, with at least 72 hours advance notice. Water: Water is available if ordered 72 hours before arrival. Supplies: Goods must be ordered from Punta Arenas well in advance.
