Port of Caldera (Chile) - Caldera Bay (Information from Ultramar Group) (ID: 18267)
Page 1 of 1 [Back to companies list]
The bay of Caldera is open to the north but well sheltered from the prevailing winds coming from the southwest that can reach force 6 in the afternoon. The outer port is deep, 24/25 fathoms, but in the interior, which widens considerably, the depths are moderate, in good holding ground with a sand bottom. In winter, north winds can cause a heavy swell which may, in turn, stop work at the lighters and at the mechanical pier, though there is no danger for the ships themselves.
