The entrance to Quintero Bay is located between Points Ventanilla and Liles. It is 2 ? miles wide; the light is 1? miles to the south-east. To the north off Ventanilla Point, there is a light-buoy with a radar screen; to the south, there is the lighthouse on Los Molles Peninsula. ETA must be sent to agents 72 hours in advance and confirmed 24 hours before arrival. It may be sent direct to Quintero but is preferable to use Valparaiso radio. Pilotage is compulsory. The pilot comes by road from Valparaiso and boards in the zone shown on the chart. Ships can enter and moor during day and night. Restrictions only apply by day in LPG, SBM and Multi-buoy. Sailing at night is possible. Towage:The use of a tug is obligatory for maneuvering at the terminals of the SBM, LPG, Multi-buoy, Chemicals and the Chilectra Ventana pier. The single buoy mooring is in a depth of 47m and can take a tanker of up to 200.000 ton displacement with no restriction on draught. A tug must be ordered to assist in mooring to the buoy, and keep stand-by at Quintero roads in case it is necessary to assist the ship to hold stern against the wind, if required. The tug charges are at the expense of the ship in order to avoid any damage to the buoy. There is a pipeline of 42 , 2.600m long between the buoy and the shore. There are 2 floating 16 flexibles and a derrick is required to lift the 10-ton manifold. The rate of discharge is up to 8.000cu. m per hour. Deballasting to shore is by means of the cargo line. Continuing round the bay counter-clockwise, almost due south of the SBM there is a short pier. Durazno pier is 95m long and the draught alongside should not exceed 19 HW. It is used by coasters and for occasional copper shipment from the refinery at Ventanas. The pier is in the town of Quintero and the offices of the Port Captaincy and Customs are at the entrance. In the southeast corner of the bay, passing the seaplane base there are 2 terminals one for liquid gas, the other for crude oil. Liquid gas terminal: The berth is reserved for tankers drawing not more than 35 with not more than 182m loa, 29m beam and 40.000 tons of maximum displacement. Ships lie to both anchors with wires to sea- anchors must be placed 600m offshore and moor to 3 stern buoys. There is a 6 line for LPG which is discharged at a rate of 240 cu. m. per hour. On the manifold there is also an 8 line for diesel oil. The manifold with the connections is a 5-tonne lift, taken on the port side by the ship s derrick. Multi-buoy terminal: It is reserved for crude oil and clean products. The draught must no exceed 46 6 and the maximum displacement is 100.000 tons. Tankers lay out both anchors and moor to 3 stern buoys, and to the wire ropes of 2 sea-anchors at 1.000m from the shore. The berth is 850m offshore, at the head of the Enap jetty, which is 200m long and is used by mooring-launches. There are two (2) 24" and 16" pipelines to the shore and the manifold (an 8-tonne lift, on the port side) has 2 flexibles of 18 for crude and fuel oil and 2 of 10 for diesel oil and gasoline. North from he multi-buoy berth is the Chemical terminal and then the Chilectra Ventana pier. LOA is limited to 250m and maximum breadth allowed is 32.3m. Chemical, Sulphur acid, clean products and LPG terminal: The jetty is 850m long with a landing place fitted by a long bridge to a working platform with two berths, north and south. Pedestrians are restricted. Tankers 200m LOA drawing not more than 12.20m can berth in both piers. Berth restrictions portside alongside apply in the North and starboard side to in the South. The ship moors to both piers to a forward dolphin (4 ropes); there are several bitts alongside (minimum: 2 bitts each with 2 spring), an aft bitt ropes) and one aft seaside bollard (1 rope) per berth. There are several manifold for different cargoes. At the North Pier only sulphur acid is loaded (2 flexible lines 6 each). At the South Pier, only LPG is discharged (2 LPG lines of 8 each and 2 vapour lines 4 each). Chemicals (flexible lines 4"+ 6") and clean products are discharged and loaded at both terminals. The entrance to Quintero Bay is located between Points Ventanilla and Liles. Port of Quintero (Chile) - Quintero Bay (Information from Ultramar Group)
