DESMI is the brand name of the products of A/S De Smithske and has gradually become the most often used name of the company as well. A/S De Smithske was founded in 1834 and established as a limited company in 1875 with the reg. No. 538, thus being one of the oldest companies in Denmark. A/S De Smithske - DESMI has 2 shareholders: DAC Smba (Dansk Andels Cement) PKA A/S (a number of pension funds administered by PKA A/S) The company has an annual turnover of about DKK 225 million (about USD 40 million) and about 275 employees. DESMI is working on an international level with about 50 per cent of its sale exported to more than 60 countries. The head office is situated close to Aalborg Airport, and in Denmark branch offices are located in Odense, Arhus, Copenhagen, Vamdrup, and Sakskobing. Aalborg and Odense have production plants. DESMI has 100 per cent owned subsidiaries in Germany, in the U.K., and in the U.S.A. The subsidiary DESMI Engineering AS is situated in Norresundby and concentrated on marine cargo pumps. DESMI is minority shareholder in: RO-CLEAN DESMI A/S Moreover, DESMI is a member of Naval Team Denmark, an export club for navy and coast guard vessels working in close cooperation with the Royal Danish Navy. The internal gear pump principle was developed in 1915 by a Danish American. In 1921, he licensed a Danish company to manufacture the pumps, which have been continuously marketed worldwide under the ROTAN name.
