Founded in 1894, Kemi Shipping Oy has for over one hundred years operated as a port company whose main areas of business are stevedoring, forwarding and agency. Additionally we are responsible for the operations of Kemin Vapaavarasto Oy, situated immediately next to the Ajos port area. 10.000 tonnes every work day Every year 2.5 million tonnes of dry goods pass through our facilities. Most export is in forestry industry products: paper, cardboard, pulp and lumber. Imports are primarily raw materials machinery and equipment required by the forestry, metal, plastics and electronics industry, as well as small and medium-sized companies. Additionally, a significant portion of imports for the Arctic Area consists of consumer goods for the commercial and domestic economies. Container and trailer traffic has grown steadily during the entire 1990s, which means an annual level of almost 20,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) of full containers. We take care of everything for you Besides employing almost 200 shipping professionals, we have the use of 70 heavy-duty machines specially designed to withstand severe arctic conditions. Our massive large-unit handling equipment is not daunted by even the largest vessels. Goods move and shipping functions smoothly. Effective and flexible operations are based on our up-to-date operative information systems and connections. In practice, the performance of necessary documentation and other agency work with shipping companies almost take place in real time.
