International commerce started in the 1700 s when the Port of Providence first established trade with China. Less than a century later, Providence is New England s third largest city and the Northeast s premiere deep water multimodal facility for international and domestic trade. ProvPort was officially founded in 1994 as a fully licensed, bonded Deep Water Port specializing in Bulk and Break Bulk commodities.
