The port of Augusta is formed by a very large road surrounded by a break-water. This road extends over an axe of deep water 4 miles in length towards N/S and 2 miles E/W. The port s entrance is large about 350 meters through the break-water where draft is over 90 ft. Augusta is the most important petroleum port of Italy and works over 30.000.000 tons. oil per year. QUAYAGE: As no quays were available at Augusta and commercial operations were taking place only at industries-terminals, whilst bunkers delivered at anchorages in roads by barges, a plan to build up a COMMERCIAL HARBOUR and QUAYS was approved in April 1980 and works started in Sept. 82; on May, 1987 the following works were completed: - commercial quay total length mt. 246 - commercial quay total length mt. 249 - one jetty with 2 berths alongside to accomodate ro-ro vessels; total length meters 260 each side. Depth has been dredged down to 12 meters. Some others 500 meters length of quays and areas are available as from october 1997 with 14 meters depth; presently a large area of abt 300.000 sq. meters is available to serve quays, services, equipments etc .Rails, cranes for containerized and general cargoes are being financed. Radio: Contacts with Ships are kept by Telex-Fax-Phone via Satellite; when ship are approaching or in port they can use VHF channel 16 for connections with port authorities,channel 12 with pilots or channel 9 with agent. Ships remaining for Bunkers only are supplied by barges at anchorages. Masters are to cable us 48 Hours prior to arrival advising ETA and very exact quantities required, then have to reconfirm ETA. Quantities ordered cannot be changed or even partly refused for Customs regulations. Minimum deliveries are: - Fuel 175 - gasoil 20 tons Agip; - Fuel 200 - gasoil 30 tons Esso; - Fuel 100 - gasoil 20 tons Maxcom etc. INDUSTRIES AND BERTHS FACILITIES - MAXCOM: They own an oil storage plant and 1 jetty with the following Berths: 1-2-3 for gasoil, fuel. Draft Max. 15' (1-3) and 29' (2). Suppliers of bunkers. - ESSO: Oil refinery. Capacity 12 Million tons crudeoil per year; they produce also abt. 300.000 tons per year of luboils. A "Cat craker" permits production and export of special fuels, aviogas, and oils suitable in cold areas. JETTY N 1: Built of cement-length abt. 750 meters - Berth 6-7-8 for bitumen, virgin naphta, gasoline, gasoil, fuel (small tankers) max. draft resp: 16' - 35' - 35'. JETTY N 2: Parallel to Jetty n 1; length abt. 1.200 meters; Berth N 9 can accomodate vessels up to 10.000 DWT on 26' max. draft. Berth 10 - 11 - 12: for crudeoil, fuels, gasolines, gasoil, lubricants; Berth 12: for lubricants max. draft is 28 feet and max. ships L.O.A. not to exceed 150 meters.Berth N 10: can accomodate tankers up to abt. 90.000 DWT on 51' draft; Berth N 11: can accomodate tankers up to abt 140.000 DWT on a Max. draft of 54'. Tankers to arrive with hoses reductions 12" ASA 150 ending cylindrical 30 cm length min/max. - CONDEA: Produces: paraffines, olefines, alcools, dodicilbenzene, capacity 500.000 tons yearly; Berth 5/5 bis can accomodate vessels up to GRT 20.000 (see plan); astern 3/Est - 3/Nord - 4 A project to build up a jetty to accomodate amidship 2 - 50.000 Dwt tankers concurretly was approved and financed on november 1998. - CONSORTILE: Total length 740 meters. Berth: C1 - C2 - C3 - C4- C5 - C6 can accomodated vessels up to 33.000 GRT on Max. draft 44' - CEMENT FACTORY: Jetty length 350 meters with Berths 13-14 and 13 bis-14 bis where Max. draft is about 23'. - JETTY NATO: Length 320 meters, Berths 15 and 16 with their draft 36' used for military cargoes. - AGIP PETROLI: Petrochemical refinery, capable to process yearly 15.000.000 tons crudeoil plus 1.000.000 tons fertilizers etc. (crudeoils, fuels, gasoil, gasolines, cumene, acids, potash, sulphates, etc.). SUPER PETROLI JETTY: Built with most modern techniques and controlled through a television circuit. Total length 1.150 meters. Berth 17 - 18 - 19 - 20 - 21 - 22 - 23 - 24 capable to accomodate 2 by 250.000 DWT, 2 by 50.000 DWT, 2 by 7.000 DWT and 2 by 1.600 DWT tankers Max. draft 65'. Discharge rate abt. 8.000 t.p.h. LIQUID JETTY: Modern built, has a length of 700 meters abt. Berths 25 - 26 amid (27 astern) for discharge fuel - virgin naphta and loading soda, fuel, gasoil, xilene, toluene, gasoline (resp. rate 2.000 - 1.600 - 140 - 200 - 250 tons per hour). Capable to accomodate tankers up to 75.000 DWT on Max. draft 42 6 . SOLID JETTY: Located in the SW side of the road; cement built. It has a length of abt. 1.000 meters. Berths 29 - 31. The 29 and 31, draft 29 6 and 31 06 resp. are equipped with belt conveyors and used for dry-cargoes which rates are as follows: Pyrites 6.000, Phosphorite 5.000, potash cloruro tons per day of 24 hours abt. - ENICHEM: Berth 33 - 34 - 35 for LPG, cumene, acrilinitrile, glycols ammonia (70-50 t.h.). Jetty length 650 meters and Max. draft 22' abt. - DRYDOCKS/REPAIRS facilities : 2 floating-docks capable to accomodate resp. ships up to 3.000 and 8.500 dwt with efficient workshops and shipyard available. Towage expenses for docking sometime are over 70% of total disbursement. - Tariffs are applied per EACH TUGBOAT used AND PER HOUR or fraction on the basis of vessel s GRT. - Any additional tugboat is requested by Master on Pilot s suggestion. It is advisable that Shipowners recommend Masters of their ships to make use of additional tugs only if necessarily needed as tariffs are charged per tugboat. Also, vessels calling for bunkers only at Augusta, enjoy the following better conditions: - Pilot Service: 25% discount on the basic tariff no charge for overtime / holydays. - Boatmen: Lumpsum trip uro 43,899 + stay. - Agency Fees: 30% legal discount. Our request to the Minister of Marine Merchant for a LUMPSUM TARIFF, for towage, regardless of the number of tugs and the time employed for berthing, second hours, Overtime, Holidays has been finally accepted and we await by the new Government the Lumpsum Tariffs before end of 2001. However, by letter dated Rome, 17/7/2000 sent by the Ministry of Transport and Navigation to all Italian Ports Authorities orders have been given to be issued at each port a full report in order that the tugboats port tariffs include overtimes, holidays, second hour etc...
