Workboats New Zealand Ltd To most New Zealanders, boats are about recreation - floating sports cars or motor homes, designed for sneaking away with a few friends, and valued in accordance with the pleasure they bring their owners. New models are eagerly reviewed by specialised magazines, and yacht brokers cluster around the nation's marinas, selling dreams to suit any budget. Many vessels, though, have more in common with tractors and stock trucks than with powerboats or racing yachts. These are the trawlers and longliners that harvest the ocean, ferries, barges and carriers that transport people and goods, and the tugs, dredges, research and rescue vessels that keep the waterways working. Workboats are valued for their capacity to do a job, and selling them is specialised work. After selling his Westhaven recreational brokerage Geoff Fraser and his wife Nicky followed a long held dream of living in the South Island, moved to Lyttelton where he has set up the region's first specialist commercial brokerage. He has changed the name of the company from Laurie Collins Commercial to Workboats New Zealand Ltd, for which fellow broker Lou St George promptly set up an office in his home town of Whangarei, leaving John Thacker to look after Auckland clients. With Brokers joining in Lyttelton and Otago the move has brought more than just a new name. With his world no longer constrained by the Bombay Hills, Geoff and fellow ex-Aucklander Richard Perkins (now living in Queensland) are shortly expected to announce the formation of Workboats Australia Ltd.
