Thornycroft Maritime & Associates provide designs and project management for vessels to be constructed in shipyards throughout the world. An extension of this service is that On-Site supervision and Project Management is also provided by the Company. A strong division of the Company is the provision of CKD (Complete Knock Down) kits. Since 1980 Thornycroft Maritime & Associates have delivered a considerable number of these kits and designs to small shipyards and owners around the world. The present day sees further development of the Thornycroft Maritime kit boat and vessel design business, which makes available advanced aluminium shipbuilding technology to developing shipyards and owners in the South East Asian and Pacific region. Thornycroft Maritime CKD Kit Sets are high quality aluminium CKD boat building kits comprising the following list of kit set components: Hull Construction Kit Engineering Kit Electrical Outfit and Electronics Kit Outfitting Kit Safety Equipment Kit Complete Design Package Thornycroft Maritime Kit Sets incorporate the most outstanding and innovative design features together with the most advanced technology available in the aluminium shipbuilding industry today. Thornycroft Maritime Kit Sets are in general developed from heavier materials than some CKD kits which are currently available in the market and without doubt provide a high quality product, which not only assists the shipbuilder, but also provides the owner/operator with a first class result. The future for aluminium and steel kit boat construction incorporating the latest design technology and the enhancement of regional shipbuilding through the supply of aluminium vessels or steel vessels in CKD form is very encouraging. This together with the provision of advanced ship design and technical support for the construction of High Speed Interceptor Craft and Offshore Patrol Vessels for foreign Navies, Marine Police and Coast Guard operations is a very exciting prospect and all of us at Thornycroft Maritime & Associates remain deeply committed to its development. In 1864 John Thornycroft built his first large steam launch in England on the river Thames. In 1866 his father, Thomas Thornycroft, purchased riverside ground adjacent to Chiswick Church and this was the beginning of the Church Wharf Shipbuilding Yard of John I. Thornycroft and Company. John Thornycroft made a considerable name for himself in fast launches and in 1876 built H.M.S. Lightning, the first torpedo boat for the British Navy. At the time of the Shipyard's move to Southampton in 1904, Thornycroft had become established as a world wide name in fast naval craft. After the death of its founder in 1928, the Company remained in the hands of the Thornycroft family until 1965, when it became part of the Vosper Thornycroft Group, and subsequently part of British Shipbuilders. Peter Thornycroft, the Founder's Grandson, founded the firms of Keith Nelson & Company Ltd and T.T. Boat Designs Ltd in 1955 and 1961 respectively. In 1969 Keith Nelson & Company Ltd became part of the Vosper Thornycroft Group, leaving T.T. Boat Designs to concentrate on design rather than building. In 1980 Thornycroft Maritime Ltd was formed, with Commander Peter Thornycroft as Consultant Naval Architect. Commander Thornycroft gave his name to the Company and the Company continued primarily to undertake overseas contracting, both in the field of design, the supply of equipment and to associate itself with joint ventures in other countries around the world. Thornycroft Maritime has a long-standing relationship with T.T. Boat Designs, which developed further through the 1980's, and continues to the present day. In 1987 Thornycroft Maritime & Associates was formed, with the emphasis on marketing, sales and project development. Up until the present time, the Company is continuing to develop new designs, incorporating the most modern technology available. Marine Brokerage has also been added to the Company's activities.
