King Abdul Aziz Port, Dammam, is the main gateway through which goods from all parts of the World enter the Eastern and Central Provinces of the Kingdom. It expanded dramatically between 1975 and 1982 in accordance with the development plans emanating from the expanding economy at that time. The container terminal, the second largest in the Kingdom and the largest in the Upper Gulf was commissioned in 1979, and provided an integrated container handling and RORO facility strategically placed to serve the requirements of the oil industry, the continuous development of Riyadh the capital, and the major provincial cities in the area. The excellent infrastructure of the port and the province generally, provides not only an efficient railway to Riyadh, but easy access to excellent highways making superb connections with the whole region.
