Marine Agency Branch The Marine Agency branch of the Company was founded in 1959 to render necessary services to tankers arriving at Kuwaiti ports against certain charges. Such services include engineering and electronic maintenance; supply of spare parts and oil, crew replacement, medical services and many such other services. Gas Filling Plant In 1960, the company was granted the right of marketing and distribution of liquefied gas in the local market as substitute for domestic fuel. In 1962, the first plant of filling and distribution liquefied gas cylinders was built up and operated with production capacity of 1.5 million cylinders per annum. In view of the increase in population, it has become necessary to increase the plant productive capacity to meet the increasing consumption volume. Therefore, a new plant for cylinders filling was built with the productive capacity of 15 million cylinders per annum at Mina Abdullah in 1985. Industrial Safety & Security Kuwait oil Tankers Company was awarded the world safety and quality certificates (ISM/ISO) in November 1997. In view of the Company interest in environment protection, it has registered eight giant oil tankers passing by Rotterdam port to obtain the Green Award from Green Award foundation, Thus, it would be the first company in the Middle east applying for such an award. The senior management decided to proceed with its efforts to obtain ISO 14001 certificate of Environment Protection Department in 2002/2003. Sea Carriage Sea carriage had been a main source of income for Kuwait at that time before oil became the main pillar of national economy. In view of the deep-rooted history of Kuwait in the field of sea carriage, these skills have become an integral part of the components of Kuwait Oil industry. Since the Company's receipt of its first tankers in 1959, its intention has been to expand and diversify its fleet which, currently consists of 16 petroleum products tankers, 6 crude oil tankers, 6 liquefied gas tankers, 2 ship fuel boats, and several supply and tow boats. The total maximum tonnage of the Company's fleet is three million and half metric ton, being one of the hugest fleets in the world. Kuwait Oil Tanker Co. also prides itself on possession of the modern giant oil tankers compatible with the highest quality and efficiency standards in addition to the giant petroleum product tankers (VLPC) which are capable of carrying crude oil and petroleum products at the least time involved. The Company's fleet fulfills the strategic requirements of the marketing sector of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. The Company fleets about 20% of the total oil export of the Corporation.
